We've been dealing with some pretty rough stuff here and I haven't been
around lately.
My MIL passed away at 3am Tuesday morning. She was dx with uterine
cancer in August of 2003. She had surgery and every possible chemo and
chemo combo's they could think of. She also developed mets to her lungs.
We think they were there at the time of dx.
She fought very hard and did everything they told her to do in regards
to treatment.
She lost the feeling in her legs right before Christmas and had to start
using a wheel chair.
She lost her sight about a week before her passing. We visited her and
she told me "Im blind" She was in constant pain and towards the end was
heavily medicated for that. Last Monday evening hospice was unable to
get a bp. And her skin took on what mysil described as a "mottled
appearance"..and she was gone the next morning.
It is a blessing that she's not in any pain now...but this is very hard
indeed.
Take care everyone

Hi, Annie,
Sorry to hear of your loss. I also lost a loved one this week - my
favorite uncle. He had bladder, prostate, and esophegeal cancer. He
rapidly declined over three weeks, spent two days in the hospice, and
was gone. I last saw him in September (I'm in Boston, he lived in
NYC), but spoke to him a week before his passing. My mother is the
only one remaining of her siblings, now, but she seems to be faring
well.
Hope all is well with you health-wise. Nice to see an oldie (and I
mean that in a kind way) still posting (I've been out of touch for
almost a year - too busy).
Take care.

Annie dear,
My heart goes out to you & your family. These kinds of losses *are* so
very hard. One thinks of parents & parents-in-law as somehow "always
there", and it's like an earthquake in one's psyche when that changes .
. . a tremendous adjustment. I'm so sorry you are having to go through
this on top of everything else that that's been going on for you.
Stay strong, and know your friends here are thinking of you and sending
sympathies!

Annie, how fortunate you were to have a mother-in-law that you could love so
much! I'm very sorry for your loss.

terms with it soon and the grief will pass.

Thanks so much for the posts.
Can I ask you for prayers for my Dad.
This is another we've had on out plate during the time tjis was going on
with my MIL.
My Dad feel at home last Wednesday [1/12] and was taken to the hospital.
They think he broke a bone in his back. He's had back problems for years
and has had several falls over the last few years.
This one is the worst he's had.
I was sitting at the funeral home and my cell went off and it was my
mother telling me that he had a fever of 104° and "septicemia" and he
was being given anti-biotics but was only given a 40% chance of
surviving this....
Well, needless to say I had a minor melt down. [okay maybe a little
worse then "minor'] Ahhh Ativan "don't leave home without it" ;-)
Anyway, the news Thursday night was better. My mother called me again
about 11:30 last night and told me she had just talked to the hospital
and his fever was going down, infection was responding to the meds they
were giving him, and vitals were better also.
Then yesterday his temp was down and doing better with all the rest of
this as well.
He was suppose to have back surgery on Thursday afternoon to remove what
they called an "abcess" either on the bone or in the bone. They did an
x-ray the day he fell and they told my mom he had a "compression
fracture of the L-2 vertabrae"
They did an MRI on Monday to make sure what they were dealing with,
that's when they told us it was an "abcess"
They are planning to remove that section of bone and replace this with a
bone from his hip.
But then this infection decided to get in there ahead of everything, so
the surgery is on hold now till all of this cleasr up.
They did take him for a CT laster in the afternoon on Friday and we
don't know anything about that yet. They also want to take a biopsy of
that area to try and find out where this infection is coming from back,
kidneys, etc.
I've been in very bad shape the last couple of days due to all this
stress and hope I get some down time in the next day or so...
Our 2 kids were in from Va for their grandma's service and they're
heading back later today. They're leaving here around 7-7:30am. My son
then goes onto Norfolk Sunday after he picks up his car at his sisters
house in Roanoke.
My mother is just beside herself with worry, so we're keeping an eye on
her as well. She is sick right now with an awful cold and cough. She has
meds now. Doctor phones in a Rx, I paid and drug store delivered
yesterday afternoon.
This I'm guessing the result of running in and out back and forth to the
hospital to see my dad. It's been VERY cold here and windy, rain and
snow mixed. Yuck!
I was going with her from Wed to Sunday and then had to be with our
other family as a result of what was going on with my MIL.
She took the meds and went to lay dwon on the bed and fell asleep and I
tried calling and no answer, and with what's going on with my dad and
after just loosing my MIL I just freaked and my DIL was on the way
there anyway, so I called her cell phone and then moved a little faster
and found her okay. And my aunt and uncle came shortly after I had tried
to call her.[next paragraph sorry bad habit of scrolling up and down and
adding and taking stuff away} OMG! The fear that was traveling through
me when this was going on. {ah ativan to the rescue again!!}
But I can relax now as she has someone with her incase she gets sick
again.
My brother/wife [older of the 2] is coming in from Chicago for a couple
of days to see my dad, and try and take care of my mom abit. We tried to
tell him to get out of there before the snow started there...did he
listen? NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
So he just left the city about -7pm last night. DUH! He does this all
the time, you'd think he'd learn. He was going to be here by 4pm
yesterday, but didn't do what he said...so now he'll fight the weather
the whole way...
Can't teach these kids anything....Only thing wrong with this is? He's
47...Hello?
My aunt and uncle also are in from Wisc. to help out. [dad's
sister/hubby]
So I think this is where my "down time" comes in, now that there will be
other family members in residence...
Thanks again for the posts about my MIL..and in advance for the prayers
I've asked for for my dad.
take care there everyone/God bless you all for your kindness
annie
p/s sorry for rambling on Tim....;-)))

*do* need some down time. You are always so kind toward all of us here
