My mom is 67 with emphesema. Is outpatient advisable with her?

Guess it depends on what her doctor says and what SHE wants...

Personally, I'd be leery of 'outpatient' under these circumstances. While the
operation itself isn't a difficult one, it still requires anesthesia. Coupled
with emphesema, she may need to be monitored longer or more carefully than the
'average' patient.

May depend on what "outpatient" means as you've expressed it, too... Home the
same day? Short, overnight hosptial stay? Done in a one of those outpatient
surgeries where she'd be out of there in a couple of hours? -- Think I'd pass
on the latter.

FWIW, I went in Thursday morning, came home Friday morning. Would have come
home sooner,(was definitely 'ready' to get out of there) but doc wanted to
watch for any post-surgical problems. Didn't have any.

Good luck in making those decisions.
