Hi all!
Could you help me understand the pathological report on the two
calcifications that were removed?
1. lateral - Fibrocystic changes with Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia
(ALH), marked intraductal Hyperplasia, sclerosing adenodis and radial
scar and focal adenosis.
2 middle - fibrocystic changes with Intraductal Hperplasia and
Sclerosing Adenosis.
The explaination was benign adenosis with calcifications and ALH -
moderately increased risk for the development of breast cancer, may not
be be persistant if breast cancer has not developed in 10 years. The
risk is equally distributed between both breasts.
DOES THAT MEAN I HAVE A 10 YEAR DEADLINE? Of what, exactly?
The specimens were stained and observed under mammography. They were
not frozen.
But other good things are happening in my life. My middle son will
become the manager of a large Rescue and No- Kill animal facility in NW
Missouri (his dream job), younger son is making quite an impression as
a stockman at Wal Mart, and he starts Auto Tech classes next month.
And our dear landlords that helped us to keep from living in our car
when our world crash have offered us a wonderful deal to buy a mobile
home over in the other park, with full grown trees, close to the pond
and a fenced yard. That park has a security gate and they are trying
to make it more of a senior park and put the young people down in this
park. I could sure use the peace and quiet and will enjoy the pond and
the ducks and geese so much. Not sure I am up to doing much of the
moving, but I will do what I can. So, even after the "death" scare of
the big C - life has suddenly turned around. Just need to stay alive
for 7 years so the home will be paid off for hubby and then he can
manage on his VA disability.

P.S. Oh, Annie, anytime you want to email me seperately on the
depression subject, feel free - it so helps to have support on that
front also!

I think that means they found what is possibly a pre-cancerous
condition. This being there means the risk of actual cancer developing
is moderately increased over the next ten years. I don't think it means
anything like a deadline, more that the increased risk is likely to fade
away over that timescale.

Fibrocystic refers to the little lumps you can probably feel which they
usually are not concerned about. Hyperplasia is overly growth of tissue and
saying atypical is type that is not expected to be seen there, and it is in
the lubules.
These changes are evidently also in the ducts. Sclerosing is hardening, so
seems to be hardening of the gland and scar.
This looks to me like there is no malignancy in the calcifications and maybe
small risk of problems in the future, if nothing else comes up in 10 years
seems to say your are home free.
This is just my interpretation..maybe someone else has a more scientific
answer...but it looks good to me.
I forgot if you are one wondering about bras. They usually want you to wear
one with good support for some time. There is a support bra at Wal-marts
that fastens in the back and easier to get on. I have lot of trouble with
bras because my right arm will not reach back to fasten now with the
shoulder replacement.
Things seem to be looking up for you....Merry Christmas!

Thanks, Peggy
Sound like just normal aging, with a slight risk. I sure hope you and
Tim are right.
I will quit worrying then.
Yes, I was the one who asked about bras, also. I will have to go to
Wal Mart and get one of those bras and try it out.
Oooh, shoulder replacement? That sounds painful. My left rotary cup
is messed up from where the seatbeat stopped me when I was rear-ended
years ago. It did act up a bit after the surgery, but is doing OK
again now.
Well, guess I had better get busy for moving --- What on earth were we
thinking?????
