Hello all. I'm looking for some input. I am 33 yrs. old - and I have
had 3 benign lumps removed in the past, and 1 core biopsy - all I'm
assuming were fibroadenomas. About 4 months ago I have felt 2 new
lumps. The one in my rt. breast feels just like the ones from the
past - quite large and uniform. I'm not worried about it. The one in
the left is a bit different feeling. Its smaller - like a pea, more
located closer to the side of my breast than my nipple, and it is also
a bit sore. Not so much tender, but achy. And it doesn't depend on
the time of the month. I have just had a mammogram and then a
follow-up ultrasound. Next week I'm having an ultrasound guided
biopsy of each lump. The dr. thinks these look like fibroadenomas.
Now, about the same time I noticed the lumps I began having earaches.
In both ears at once, or sometimes just one. Never super serious, but
again "achy". I went to a head/neck dr. and she couldn't see any sign
of infection.
My concern is that the earache is somehow a lymph node thing. And
that the rt. lump is a lymph node, not a fibroadenoma. I'm totally
worried about this. I haven't mentioned it to the dr. because I've
not seen the same dr. yet. They don't seem to even look at my prior
issues. Anyway, a couple of questions. Will a needle biopsy be able
to accurately test a lymph node? Is it even a possibility its a
swollen node? If they get some cells from it, and they test it for
"breast cancer", and what if its a lymphoma type? Will they be able
to tell without specifying to look for that? Could my ears be
related? Thanks.

I have a good friend who had a problem with ear infections that she kept
getting for about a year (or more?) before she was dx'd with b.c. I also had
something going on with my ear before my dx, and about 2 years after dx read
about a possible connection. I wear hearing aids, and my problem involved one
of those. I had a problem with my right hearing aid giving out frequently and
needing repair. This happened with 2 different right aids. The problem was
due to excessive wax in that ear which kept getting into the aid and eventually
breaking it. This only happened with the right ear--same side that I had had
mastectomy.

A swollen lymph node (if that's what it is) and earache simultaneously say
bacterial infection to me. I can't imagine how a cancer could do that.
I am sure that if a lump is sampled, whether or not it is in a lymph node,
any abnormal cell types will be obvious, whether from breast tissue or
elsewhere. The microscopic pathology examination is basically looking for
anything that does not belong in that part of the body.
