Hello everyone!
My name is C?dric, I'm 17 and I'm French. Today, my mother has an
examination and we have learned that she may have a breast cancer. I worry
and I'd like to ask you some questions:
1/ Are tumors ofter benign or malignant (in %)?
2/ Even if she has a malignant tumor, can she survive?
3/ What can I do to help her?
Thank You
C?dric

1. About 80% benign

2. Survival from small malignant tumours caught early is about 95%

3. OK, that's the hard question.

Just be there for her.  Talk about it if and when she wants to.

Make sure someone sensible goes with her to her consultations, there is
a lot of information to take in at once and it helps to have a second
set of ears, someone to discuss issues with afterwards, and to make sure
all the questions get asked and answered.  It's a good idea if she makes
a list in advance of what questions are worrying her, and goes through
the list with the doctor.

Good luck to your mother.

Cedric,
I am no expert by any means on the subject of breast cancer. There are alot
of people here who are much more knowledgeable than I am, I do know the fear
that you must feel right now. Just hang in there till you have a diagnosis
and then let everyone here know and they will be able to answer your
questions better. From what I understand most lumps are NOT cancerous and
most cancerous ones if caught early are very much treatable and survivable.
My main reason for responding was your last question, what can you do for
her. You don't realize it maybe, but you have just done so much for her by
even thinking to post your questions here. You show so much love and caring
for what she is going through just by being concerned and wanting answers.
Hang in there and let us know what the diagnosis is when you get it. I will
be thinking of you and your mom. She's lucky to have you for a son and I bet
she knows that!
