Yes, wonderful, thank you.
We visited with an old college friend who now lives in LA, right by the
beach, and has two girls around Natasha's age
So Natasha got to do all the usual theme park and Hollywood stuff and had a
ball, and we watched pelicans diving in the surf.
And I got to clean all the viruses and spyware out of his computers, and to
drive a people-carrier on the 'wrong' side of the road, and to learn how
taking 3 or 4 kids to the beach or the mall is like herding cats.
His wife is a nurse, what would here be a Sister grade, so we got to talk
oncology and caregiving stuff too. By English reckoning her pay packet
seems to have too many zeroes on the end. They tried to persuade me I
should take a nursing qualification and go work in the US. Hrumph.
All in all a nice change from home, but we're still glad to be back.

Yes - the secret is to start when they're in their pram. It was quite easy
with our five but grandchildren are a different matter, they've never been
herded!

No. We need you here.

We've jolly pleased that you -are- back - but extra pleased that you both
had a wonderful time.

You were in LA? That must have been a long flight! Glad to heatr you had a
good trip.
Did you get to swim in the ocean? I imagine England like New England has
cold beach water, that is why I like to go to Florida and swim.

What is Sister grade? Is it like a Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse?

There is a need for RNs in the US, it only takes 2 years to get licensed.
Here is the US the nurses are always complaining we don't make enough money
but I have always done ok.

Yes. I am always happy to come home.

Natasha did, I mostly got to look after the towels and other properties on
the beach.
England's water is relatively warm for its climate. UK is 50 odd degrees
north but has a temperate climate mainly because the ocean is realtively
warm there and warms the on-shore winds. California has it the other way
around, it would be sub-tropical but for the cold ocean current and on-shore
winds. So I guess the water temperatures are about the same. New England
is 10 degrees south of UK but tends to get a cold ocean current from the
Arctic

I'm not sure exactly, she said that was about equivalent. A Sister would be
a senior practicing nurse who is in charge of a ward or theatre. I think
she works for some sort of supply agency, she does shifts in a number of
different places as required. Her income leaves her husband free to keep
house and to work on speculative projects.

Glad you had a good time. I guess you were in when the weather was nice and a
bit cooler. If you ever get around this way again, my husband and I would love
to have you over for a barbeque or shown you some sites.
Now I'm curious..what did you picture? Hope you made me young, tall and
willowy! :-)
