I am also 74, and was diagnosed with b.c. in Feb. 04.  I was given the
choice of lumpectomy or mastectomy, and chose lumpectomy.  I am now
receiving IMRT radiation, and then will have CMF chemo.  I feel I am getting
the best care available in my area, and my surgeon did discuss everything
with me before I made a decision.  I don't think my age was a consideration
in the treatment plan offered; it was really my choice.

Wishing you the best--Joan

I'm 57 and had the same treatment as you are receiving, although I had
chemo before radiation.

I too had the choice of lumpetomy or mastectomy.  When the doctor
phoned me to tell me the lump was cancer and surgery would be in 4
days I initially chose mastectomy. I spent 3 days crying and decided
to change my mind and have the lumpectomy.

It's been two years now and so far so good.
