I am 45 years old male in Sydney Australia,
Have had asthma since I was 2 years old.
In the last couple of months I have noticed that my Seretide seems less
effective. I increased the Dose and use Ventolin as well. Doctor says
lungs sound OK and suggested xray.

What actions would you recommend?

Thanks

Did your doctor perform a PFT (pulmonary function test)?

Did you know that at least 70% of people with asthma have food
allergies? Hidden food allergies can trigger a lot of medical
conditions. Many doctors will not refer you to an allergist because
they want to try a quick fix. The best fix may be an allergist. Food
allergies may also be robbing you of some of your energy without you
knowing it. Talk to an allergist. You won't regret it. An allergist got
rid of my asthma.

I'm dubious.  I've got asthma, and sure enough I'm allergic to just about
anything that can be inhaled.  Despite that I've tested completely absent of
any food allergies.

Got a cite for that 70% figure?

Do you mean a citation?

Katherine, I doubt Brad will respond.  I've already written him to request that he stop cutting and pasting the same message, and suggested that if he wants to help people that he actually stick around and have exchanges with them.  No reply.

Just wondering when your asthma started and whether it began following a bad illness?  My allergies got increasingly worse over the years, and Joy had allergies that never ever showed on tests.   Sometimes this happens when you've had one of the bacteria that Dave Oshinsky, Joy and I have posted about, which can either cause the asthma, or make the asthma worse.  In Daves and my case, it caused our asthma which was eventually resolved.  I think in Joys case, it made her asthma worse, so she went from seasonal allergy induced asthma to suffering all year.

Of course, in my situation, it was hard to remember all the details since my asthma began 34 + years ago.
