Fatigue and asthma can be triggered by hidden food allergies. Visit or call an allergist. Food allergies can cause mild or severe reactions. They can also be delayed by up to 72 hours after you eat a food. Many people don't realize that foods are used to make the additives in foods. You may be allergic to them. Food allergies can cause psoriasis, eczema, joint pain, and many other problems. Doctors have written books about this. Check out "Food Allergies and Food intolerance" by Dr. Jonathan Brostoff.

ObAsthma: my friend with asthma recently had a checkup which featured a bloodtest. His eosinophils were high (no shock there) but his neutrophils and something-else-o-phils were normal. I'm curious if those of you whose asthma was improved by antibiotics had a high level of the non-eosinophil o-phils in a blood test before starting treatment.

Only idiots feel the need to announce it when they killfile. If you had anything interesting to say after the above, I'm afraid I had to miss it. I never killfile. I just don't read the posts of those who annoy me.

You have only to USE you computer to GOOGLE the groups and READ all the pasts posts before you stick your foot in your mouth.

I don't have to do anything of the sort. I care nothing for the History of the Group, or the Party Line of one or another faction. This is Usenet, not a private club. It's about the exchange of information. I'm not interested in anything beyond that, but you knock yourself out.

As far as I am concerned, I see no reason to let the flame wars start by NEWBIE'S who fail to have followed netiquette and who don't even have a clue who the REGULAR players are. HOW 'bout this one MAR?. Sheldon thinks his wife's problems are fixed by a purple dildo. You knew that of course. HE would be so happy to introduce YOU to that fact. You just STEPPED in it. LEARN.

Joy - 02 Dec 2004 22:10 GMT I should have known that would be your attitude. It takes someone who is totally socially inept to have made the mistake in the first place. No surprise here that you can't see it now either.

Yes, Joy, that's right. It is all a very Intricate Process with the "Newbies" as you put it having to Jump Through Hoops dictated by the Group Regulars who then decide if they are Worthy. Pffft. Get over yourself. It's Usenet. You don't make the rules. Twit.

Joy - 03 Dec 2004 01:09 GMT calling is sooooooo effective. Pretty much defines your maturity level.
Yes, this is Usenet Mary only you don't seem to want the rules to apply to you. You actually go so far as to pretend they don't exist. And of course, you wouldn't bother to search about "lurk and learn" in Netiquette which would have indeed proved you're wrong. So I thought I would help you out.
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/cctam016.htm
Group behavior lends itself to a different set of rules, and those rules vary from group to group. For example, flames, or inflammatory messages, might be considered rude in one newsgroup and normal behavior in another. The rule of thumb for dealing with newsgroups is to 'lurk,' or watch without participating, until you know what is expected of you. Some newsgroups or message boards have FAQs (frequently asked questions) that explain the normal procedures of the group.
http://www.usenetmonster.com/infocenter/articles/usenet_netiquette.asp Usenet Beyond the etiquette required for email, usenet has some specific etiquette points of its own, including:
Be sure to lurk for a while before you post. Get the flavor of a group and don't embarrass yourself by posting a question that had just been answered 16 times. People will flame you for this, and the polite ones will yell "READ THE FAQ"
http://www.entrepreneur.com/iwork/iworkarticle/0,4961,292633,00.html
Before you post your first message, sit on the sidelines for a while to learn how participants play the newsgroup game. This "lurking" gives you a sense of what participants in each newsgroup expect to learn from the community, how they interact with each other and how you can add value to their conversations. Participate only after you've gathered this information.
Subtlety is Key! When it's time to start posting messages to the group, subtlety and tact are your two best weapons.
http://www.help2go.com/article80.html 8) Lurk before you post
Finally, when participating in a discussion, it is polite to learn about the discussion guidelines before posting a question. For instance, when joining an e-mail listserv or newsgroup, you should read the messages for a few days before posting. Reading several days worth of messages without posting is called lurking, and it is an excellent way for you to get a feel for the discussion being had.
If you have a question to ask, first find out if there is a related discussion archive or FAQ. A discussion archive is a compilation of all messages in the group. An answer for your question probably lies within that archive. Another good resource is the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for the listserv/newsgroup. This is simply a web page that has basic questions and answers related to the discussion.

In the past some of the new members of the group have been intimidated by Sheldon's posts. Those of us who are regulars have taken to warning people that is normal behavior for him and that the best course of action is to killfile. If you would like, I can Google the group over the last year and provide real links to posts of confused and hurt newbies. Then you can see why Alison did it. But why you felt you had to say anything is totally beyond me. You see to have a problem.

Really, I wouldn't think many people would care. However, I'm curious about why you feel so strongly that she shouldn't have posted what she did yet you think that we all want to hear about what *you* think about the whole matter.
I'm trying to be charitable and not think of you as a hypocrite but I'm having trouble finding a logical way around it. Anything you can say to enlighten me would be helpful.
Thanks in advance - and BTW - welcome to the group.

It means a stupid person. Do you know what stupid means? It means not intelligent. So there is the crux of the matter. You are using words that you either don't mean or you do mean. If you don't mean them, then you appear to be so defensive that you will not apologize for using them. If you do mean them, then you are mistaken, and still owe Alison an apology.
So buck up or bail out.
NorthShoreCEO - 04 Dec 2004 18:55 GMT You miss the point of Mary's post. CBI states there's no difference between announcing that someone is being killfiled and announcing that you no longer intend to read a persons posts. Mary says she never said that she announces it when she decides she isn't going to read someones posts.
But here's the point I want to make, Mary. While I agreed with you that there seems to be a caste system involved in news groups that can be insufferable, you've now managed to attack several people here. If you're here for help with asthma, who do you think is going to help you out at this point? Don't bother with your typical response that you don't care, etc., because I doubt anyone cares whether you care or not. Who will help you if you have a question now that you've endeared yourself to so many people here? Or, if you're here to help people - how are you doing that?

Actually, I usually let a post sit for a couple of days to see if someone else will answer. When they don't, I try to help. So, if people think I am a post humper they might try answering some of the questions themselves. It would in fact, lighten my load.
And yes, I have asthma, or something like it. I do require asthma meds in the summer. But, was unaware you had to have asthma to post here. She seems to know everything about this NG.

NorthShoreCEO - 03 Dec 2004 16:47 GMT Well, I find this odd, Mary. First of all, did you look back to see if Brad was actually a spammer? He's not, that I can see. He puts all his eggs in one basket (every ill points to food allergies), and is guilty of sometimes cutting and pasting the same message, but doesn't post anywhere that he's selling anything and always states people should see an allergist. If there's evidence that he's a spammer, I haven't seen it.

Keith Winkler - 05 Dec 2004 22:03 GMT Hi,
I've been lurking in the shadows. I just came here to learn more about asthma. Actually though, I've enjoyed the repartee. Mary, you are cool!
Now I do have a question: what is a killfile and how does one do it? Uh oh, I suppose I should check the FAQs for the answer! On the other hand, where would I find the FAQs for this NG? Do they even exist?

I'm just trying to enjoy a rousing debate here, while learning about asthma from those who have it, and those who don't but like narcotics and so say they do.
> Now I do have a question: what is a killfile and how does one do it? Uh > oh, I suppose I should check the FAQs for the answer! On the other hand, > where would I find the FAQs for this NG? Do they even exist? 1. People with self control don't need killfiles.
2. Never let the FAQ keep you from joining the discussion. Chance are it was written by an idiot control freak who would rather say "Read the FAQ" than engage in an open discussion.

Steve Freides - 01 Dec 2004 15:00 GMT > first med wise I take: advair (highest dose), singulair, atrovent, > flonase, [quoted text clipped - 10 lines] > > is this to do with the asthma flare up? Yes. A few things you might try if you haven't already:
1. A humidifier - my lungs just don't work as well in extremes of temperature and humidity as to the lungs of people without asthma, and I imagine yours are somewhat the same. In the winter, I find sleeping with a room humidifier a must, and usually a humidifier next to my desk as well during the day, and one in the living room, too. (A whole-house solution is something we've considered but I like being able to get very close to the room type when I feel the need.) I also find that taking a long hot shower in an unventilated bathroom or going to a steam room can help. What I'm hinting at here is that part of what you get from the nebulizer is nice air to breath - this in addition to whatever medicine you're putting in it.
2. You might experiment with other anti-histamines if you haven't already. Claritin seems to me, overall, not terribly strong stuff and I prefer Zyrtec or especially Allegra most of the time - just personal preference but if you never tried the others, I'd get some samples and give them a go for at least a week each to see what you think.
3. Try breathing exercises if you haven't already - they may do absolutely nothing for you but they may help, too. The simplest one I've ever learned is to breath only through your nose for several minutes at a time, partially constricting your nose if necessary to make it feel like it's a bit of work to do (the partial constriction is not usually necessary in my case). Your body will eventually start to breath differently if you do this for long enough with a focus on breathing into the belly although please don't ask me to explain how because I don't know. I was at a weekend-long flexibility training where the focus was on mastering the art of muscle control and learning to relax your muscles as a way of increasing your range of motion. At the end of the weekend, the trainer had us all do this - just lay on the ground and force yourself to breath through a partially constricted nose for several minutes. Being asthmatic, it scared the daylights out of me and, given the history you've described, I would _not_ try this without someone else in the room, but it might be worth a try for you to see if it brings some relief.
There are also lots of web sites with good information about breathing exercises - here are some links that were given to me on this newsgroup a few weeks ago:

http://www.mgh.org/education/health/better.html
http://library.nationaljewish.org/MSU/11n7MSU_Pulm_Rehab.html#RTFToC6
There is also an admittedly controversial school of thought called Buteyko which is discussed here from time to time you might want to read about. I've found this source - http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb/buteyko.htm - to offer a rational perspective on the subject whereas a lot of folks get hysterical about it. I have never "followed" Buteyko in that I've never taken a class, read a book on the subject, etc., but I found the web site very interesting reading and it got me started thinking about things I hadn't considered before, always a good thing.
Best of luck to you.

Brad_Chad - 15 Dec 2004 08:32 GMT I had chronic fatigue and asthma as a small child. My asthma seemed to disappear for many years, until I got hayfever and joint pain. When I was 40 I read a magazine article that said that Hidden food allergies may trigger several medical conditions. I saw an allergist. I found out that I was allergic to corn and dairy products. All of my problems seemed to disappear in a matter of days. I had enough energy to compete in the Olympics.
Many doctors will not refer you to an allergist because they want to try to give you a quick fix. The quick fix is not necessarily the best fix. Did you know that 70% of asthma is triggered by food allergies? Talk to an allergist. Food allergist are more complex than most people think.
