I am an asthmatic who had a foot injury a month ago and had to have
surgery on my heel. More on this later. Interestingly, I have had no
asthma and in complete control when before when under stress had
asthma, tight chest. No using of my albuterol inhaler when stressed or
any tight chest when under severe stress at this time with this
injury!.

My Siberian husky who is 13 yrs old, was outside a month ago due to
her severe shedding of fur, we had a "cool front" here more than a
month ago in SW TX and got to turn off the air conditioner for several
nights and she was able to with her muzzle open our unlocked patio
door and came in the house and was excited like a young pup. I was at
the computer reading the messages and she came into this room. I
quickly tried to get into the other den where the screen door was not
securely locked so she would not get outside and she was so excited to
be inside the house she was racing around and around and hit me from
behind in the leg and I felt like she hit me with her leg and I fell
forward and felt no pain, however, when I attempted to get on my 60 yr
old feet, my left leg/foot had agonizing pain. I saw my heel look
funny. Trip to ER and x-ray showed heel-bone had separated from heel
and surgery. Saw doc who did surgery and the heel bone had to be
attached by two screws with bolts and achilles heel  muscle was
affected, plus a ligament was nicked. So had surgery and now in a foot
boot and doing excercises and slight weight on foot for now. Anyone
out there that had foot surgery and in a boot that knows what I am
going through for right now that can e-mail me for questions I have?
Just want support. No asthma whatsoever!!!! Thank Goodness!
Am in wheelchair that requires upper chest muscles to wheel around and
some walker with my good leg jumping on one foot to get from bed to
wheelchair visa versa. Thank goodness my asthma meds are working!
Hope it's ok to post with this, but being an asthmatic, and this
having happened, want to hear from others that might have had foot
surgery, or knee surgery where having to use muscles that need to be
retrained and excercised. I am usually with being asthmatic not able
to do excercises at times.
Please, no advise to get rid of husky, she is a dear and have no
asthma or allergy to her! We are both moldy oldy lady's! : )

Doesn't sound like there is much reason to get rid of the
dog. Dogs can trigger asthma in two ways - one is if you are
allergic to the dog and the other is if the increased dust
fromt he dog triggers you. If neither appliesthen there is
no problem.

As for the foot - I have a feeling that most of your
questions would be better answered from someone who has been
there. I just wanted to pipe up and suggest that you have
your bone density checked since your description of the
accident sounds like there may be a problem there. No matter
what your density turns out to be you should be getting at
least 800 IU of vitamin D and 1500mg of calcium per day and
as much weight bearing excersize as possible (foot allowing,
of course).
