I guess the tech name is formoterol fumarate inhalation powder.  A
friend is raving about the results and I had never heard of it.  TIA

Formoterol is another long acting bronchodilator similar to
salmeterol (Serevent). It has a faster onset of action, 10
minutes rather than 30, so is considered by many to be a
slightly better drug. Some would say that in mild to
moderate attacks (where one could wait 10 minutes for an
effect)  that it could be used as a rescue inhaler although
this is not an accepted use for it right now (personally I
don't see why you would eant to wait 1 minutes even in a
mild attack).

I think it would be more widely used in the US if it came in
a more convenient delivery device (you have to insert a
capsule into the device and puncture it) and if it came
combined with an inhaled steroid (like Advair - tha may
change soon).

Thank you. My friend who is a senior and uninsured has signed up for
some kind of program and has the meds shipped to her by Schering.  As I
mentioned she is quite pleased, (stopped using her air pump and
albuterol).  When you say "long acting," how much time generally are we
talking about?

It is usualy taken twice a day - so presumably something on
the order of 12 hours.

My Dr. gave me a sample last year during one of my bronchitis episodes.
It's really hard for me to
notice any results in a couple of weeks.  I'm on Advair now and I feel like
it is better to have the
steroid.
