Hi

I thought this article might be of some interest.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3795349.stm

It seems to suggest an immune system that's evolved to deal with invaders
that no longer exist. IMHO it seems also to support the 'hygeine' theory for
asthma i.e. an immune system that's far too powerful and understretched for
the condition it now finds itself in.

Thought this might go right along with .. that ..

the highest levels of plasma chitotriosidase were observed in patients with the
highest degree of iron overload, suggesting that this factor could trigger
chitotriosidase overproduction.

Parasites and asthma
Among the Sudanese there is no asthma as they are all infected with parasites.
It is thought that the immune system - originally developed for cattacking
parasites - is fully occupoied by the worm infection.

Maybe it is just that the worms cause chronic blood loss and anemia?

Or they don't make it through Pneumonia. OR they have a genetic
predisposition to fighting it off.
Whatever the cause, it is like looking for chicken teeth in a haystack - you
have to be careful of the co-relations you draw from the data.
