Honestly, there have been nights recently when my asthma gets so bad I
sometimes wish to leave this world for a better one. Every time I cough
I think of my Mom who took her last cough before dieing from complication
of Asthma years ago. Hooked up to tubes and breathing machines, she took
her last breath unconscience in a hospital as we stood by and weep.

Is this is the kind of life that awaits me?  No one can know what it
feals like to lie alone in bed and gasp for air that's won't come in and
ask, "Why me?" over and over. I haven't reached the stage she was at yet
but I'm getting closer.

Sorry if I sound so negative.

I know how you feel.. right now as I type this I am doing a breathing
treatment at home because I woke up not breathing well.  It's been a bad
couple of weeks and I have a feeling it's not going to get better for
awhile.  I have adult onset asthma, never having had it as a child and
it's not easy to deal with.  My mother died of lung cancer but she was
able to die peacefully at home.  She too suffered from asthma at the end
(as well as other complications) and at the time she was dying my own
asthma had just been diagnosed 3 months earlier.  And though I have many
days where I think this breathing thing is not all it's been hyped up to
be... I remember that there are many people who love me and who would
miss me.... and I want to see my grandson and any future grandchildren
grow up.

Too bad asthma wasn't an important issue, like you know... old men regaining
the ability to get erect.

If it was, we'd see some pretty cheap-a.s asthma medication for everyone,
and probably very effective too.
