Have asthma?
Lately , for about a year, my energy is on strike, ie anyactivity I do is
with an effort and causes me to huff
and puff. I quickly recover with rest. No wheezing, it just
seems I run out of air.
I was put through the lung tests (blowing in the tube) and it was quite
thorough (took about an hour). The resulting diagnosis was asthma. What I
have does not seem like
asthma to me. Allow me to explain.
I am 73 years old in reasonably good health, I thought.
I do have high blood pressure. I said I know asthma,
I had it through my growing up years. This was asthma
that put me down. I had spells that many times resulted in
hospital visits. I did not go swimming until I was 16 , I took cold serums
(a series of about 19 shots) every year to discourage colds as they would
turn into asthma attacks. My last attack of asthma was the week before
I was drafted into the Army in 1951. Let me say the attacks were less
frequent than when I was smaller. I
credited pure refusal to submit to the attacks. I think I was actually
"outgrowing the disease". I also thought it strange it not returning after I
left home but that is for the Physicatrist to determine.
What I have now is a shortness of breath. I blame it on
laziness (I am retired) and overweight.

You do not 'outgrow' asthma. The disease simply goes into remission.
You have actually had asthma all of your life - you just have not had
asthma symptoms for most of your life.

Why don't you talk to your doctor about starting an exercise program?
