I'm applying for a new job in a different department with my current
employer and the application form requires me to fill in a section regarding
disability. It asks if I am disabled and defines disability as "a physical
or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on
his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities"
I have brittle asthma which my employer has known since I was first employed
by them and they have a letter on file from my doctor. I had 15 days
absence in the last 12 months due to asthma - no more than 1 or 2 days at a
time.
I've never regarded myself as disabled but believe more severe asthma meets
the definition of disability in terms of the Disability Discrimination Act
1995.
I live in the UK.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Or have any suggestions?

I used to collect SSI just for my asthma. I was on SSI for 5 years before I
got better enough to obtain a job.
I also qualified for a handicap sticker back in 1990 because I have
difficulty walking distance.
