Yeah,
I also get hoarse and I also have to clear my throat a lot. I was
wondering if really rinsing out my mouth and throat might help after
inhaling, don't know.

:-) Didn't read the instructions, did you? :-)
Highlighted instructions on the sheet say rinse mouth without swallowing
after each use. Your doctor should have emphasized this.

Rinse AND gargle. Two times. Very mild salt water may help.

I had a lot of hoarseness for several months, Dr. said probably not from
Advair, sent me to ENT who said it was caused by allergy and reflux.
I finally figured out it was from Atrovent used with Xopenex in nebulizer
because when I used the Albuterol inhaler instead of nebulizer while on a trip
the hoarseness improved. When I went back to nebulizer and used just the
Xopenex, no hoarseness, and have been fine since. I'm sure I'm allergic to the
atrovent because when I tried it again I not only got hoarse but started
wheezing.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ho Silver - 22 Dec 2003 14:49 GMT
Am doing an experiment to see if it is the ADVAIR -- stopped ADVAIR
altogether for a few days, and my voice has recovered. That might be a
coincidence, so am now resuming it's use for a few days to see if hoarseness
returns. Will post results.

This one is easy - just rinse out your mouth with water and/or gargle with
your favorite substance. I find I have to do it right away so I ready a
glass of water, inhale my Advair and, while I'm holding my breath for a few
seconds, swirl around a bit of water in my mouth and spit it out, at which
point I'm ready to exhale as well.
Contrary to what the other poster said, your doctor needn't have emphasized
this practice. The problem doesn't happen to everyone and, if you don't
need the extra steps, there's no benefit served by following them IMHO.
