Hi,

Wondering if anyone has a recommendation on how to find a good doctor.  I
live in Atlanta, GA US.  Haven't been able to find anyone good just going
through my insurance provider.

Can't seem to get my asthma managed well and am thinking a good doc would be
a step in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

I'm sure you're living near a universty with a medical school.  Likely
to find a good pulminologist there.  Or whatever specialist.  Great
thing about a school is they're all watching each other.

Yeah Allison, you are absolutely correct:  a good doctor is the way to
go.

I am a patient who screwed around with several blase, relatively
dishonest and uncaring hacks  for some years before I became aware I
needed to seek out and shop around  for a real physician.

Found just such a gentleman at Columbia Presbyterian here in New York.

The trip from Third Street to 168th is worth making to see my
pulmonologist, cardiologist or to get pulmonary rehabilitation twice a
week.

Have regained some ground in the last fifteen months.

Good luck in your search---Jack

I also live in Atl and I have had  no luck finding a doc either. And here it
is the Asthma capital of the world.  You'd think they would have all kinds
of experience. Don't go to Emory. The Pulm I saw there told me he couldn't
help me. I should tell you that I moved to the south part of town and found
getting out of the city "air" helped. A lady from Peachtree City told me she
also moved out of Cobb and got some relief. Since the prevailing winds are
Eastward, I'd stay out of Rockdale.

I live in Iowa and was refered to an alergist 6 weeks ago because a blood
test (cvc) looked like I had alergies.  By then my regular doctor had seen
me
three times over 2 months and I felt like I was about ready to die from this
thing.
They would give me something to try without really knowing what they were
treating.

At any rate my alergist seems quite on the ball, in 3 hours they had me
diagnosed
as esonophilic non-alergic rhinitis and asthma.  Since then I have spent a
lot of time
on the internet learning about just what that all means.  Yesterday
(Christmas) I hurt my
back and took some advil, an hour later my sinusis were all screwed up.  So
today I read
all about asprin sensitive asthma. I have learned a lot, including the fact
that a lot of people
are much sicker than I am.  I just wish they would fix this and be done with
it.

The one other thing about this alergist that makes me think he is pretty on
the ball about this, is
that he has exactly the same condition I have.  Seems like that would be a
good reason to stay up
to date on this dosen't it.

Just looking under asthma physicians I found several listed for Atlanta.

Good luck and I hope 2004 is a better year for everyone!
