i have been in a downward spiral ever since
they switched me to the discus.
it seems as if i am back to where i began.
was recently hospitalized, i am so scared about my breath.
i wake up and can't hardly make it down the hall.
the drugs that were working for me were
singulair
serevent inhaler
prevasid
i did fine for 2 or 3 years.
has anyone else had to switch from this combo?
if so, what did you find that works?

I felt the same way as you (was on Serevent diskus for 3 weeks and
felt my breathing getting harder and harder) until I discovered the
secret to taking it successfully -- the mouthpiece must go back behind
your front teeth. I realized that I was holding the mouthpiece just
inside my mouth on the outside of my front teeth, and the particles of
medicine were being deposited onto my teeth instead of being sucked
into my lungs! I found this info on a website (it was NOT in the
instructions that came with the Serevent diskus -- can't figure that
out). When I inhaled it correctly for the first time last evening, I
could feel it starting to work within 20 minutes. Hope this helps
you. I was starting to get really frightened, wondering how am I
going to shovel snow, how am I going to be able to mow my lawn this
summer?
Besides the Serevent diskus, I take a Flovent (steroid) inhaler. I've
had asthma for 30 years since I was 24 years old after I had a viral
infection.

Yes, I can not take the serevent powder -- I get bad attacks. So...
we're out of luck. Make sure you don't take the powder and just use
albuterol sprays instead.
There are a small number of us.
Good luck

Good news. If you are someone who can't use the inhaled powder
serevent you should try FORADIL, another long-acting powder.
I had a terrible reaction to powder Serevent and was very upset not to
have any long acting options. However, my doctor put me on Foradil
and so far it's great.
Even if this helps one of you out there, it's a big, big relief to
know there are options. Ask your doctor to try this medicine.
