Has anyone gone into a room and for some reason is bothered by the air in
the room, or the dust especially when the heat is on? It can be mold etc ,
but sometimes I even smell it from the heat from my car. This is contributing
to my asthma and I have no idea what to do about it. I literally think I am
going crazy. I wrote about this before but the smell of dust drives me
crazy. Then to make things crazier, went to dr and took tests on my arm. I
was reactive to most everything especially ragweed and all sorts of
trees. Now I do well on clear cool crisp days in the park.In fact I would
rather go out in the park because I breathe better, and usually after an
hour my breathing improves. This is soo weird!!!!! I know the air is better
outdoors but my allergies test came back that , there should be the most
problem. I do have anxiety so after exercise, slowing my breathing down
helps . Why when I come indoors , sometimes hours later I am soo senstive to
dust. I think I am going crazy! I go into a store and can tell how clean the
air system is I can tell you which store has the cleanest air.. I can go out
even and tell how clean the air is without reading a chart . Its sooo weird.
I have the need for clean air and when Its dusty my system smells it ,
almost akin to loud siren going off  for my ears  if there was an analogy.
Does anyone know whats going on? I had vents cleaned twice, no avail. I
tried a hepa and after a month the little benefit seems to go. Right now I
am typing and smell the dust from the heat system. Man this is terrible. I
go to sleep now with window open and find it helps a little. Any suggestions
?

You didn't say whether your in a house or an apartment.  Check the internet for
recommended methods, then have the ducts cleaned by a competent technician.
It's not cheap ... on the order of $35 per vent ... but it could make a
significant difference.

Most newer cars have air filters for the passenger compartments ... check your
users guide for confirmation.  If so, replace it.

Hope this helps ...

Hi ,
Thanks for the advice.I had two duct cleaning. After a few days I smell the
dust again. I can't understand why I go into a few stores and the air smells
soo clean! Ok about the vents. I can't tell who is good or who isn't. The
tool they used could not reach the long duct . One guy wanted 1000 to drill
a hole and get that area , the rest tried but could only get so far. all
this talk about long cords and all are not true, they can only go so far. I
added a heater filter and thinking maybe I added it to wrong side  ? I think
I will add another to the other side of blower even though the heating guy
put it on. When I take it off its always pretty clean. I am so lost with all
this. All I know is I know what I smell . I was out for two hours today and
loved it but now this everyday is what I am left with. I might ultimately
spend 1000 dollars to drill a hole in long vent but there are no guarantees.
I can't understand all this! Thanks for any help. Yes I took all rugs out of
my room and try to get rid of dust mites.

==================
I'll throw in a guess here -- that it's a response to the lower relative
humidity of heated air.  I'm very sensitive to this and have to humidify the
house air every winter when we're heating.  A partial clue to this phenomeno
n should be a reduced problem in the summertime -- unless you're having
active pollen allergy.

Hi SJF,
Thanks for the suggestion , but we use to have a humidifier and it was just
as bad, and when the air conditioner (central) goes on , I have the same
problem. I realize this isn't that unique because the duct people say people
call him back every six months. I just don't know why its soo reactive to
me. About allergy, its not the outside , its the inside that brings on my
asthma. I have never even jogged in the cold air that brought on a asthma
attack. My breathing is not getting to good when I jog and I have to stop
and start allot and each year of asthma, I get out of breath faster (another
concern with the accumulated affects  of asthma) but I never ever had even
so much as cough outdoor. Its so weird I am starting to get depressed big
time. I take advair and singular. I am not rich, and my options are limited
. ugh thanks for at least making suggestions and listening to me .
