I am going to do a search but thought I would ask at a group for asthma. I
was recently unfortunately diagnosed with asthma (few years ago). I started
out with singular and now was given Advair because my asthma was getting
worse. Do steroids cause permanent damage? Do people like Advair? I
appreciate any feedback on this subject group, please?  Thanks allot.

Inhaled steroids are typically well tolerated and cause no harm.

Advair is a combination of two medications - first an inhaled steroid
and second, a long duration bronchodilator.  The Inhaled steroid is
used to control the airways inflammation that causes asthma symptoms
and the long acting bronchodilator is basically a 12 hour version of
albuterol.

There has been some discussion on the pros and cons of combining the
medications.  The pros are that it is an effective combination and
more convenient than separate medications.  The con is that you lose
the flexibility of being able to increase or reduce your medication
dosage as your condition changes.

The basic rule to follow is that the 'best' medications and treatment
program is the one that works best for you.  Different people have
less or greater response to different medications so what is 'best'
for me may not be the best program for you.

As Colin says, there is no need to worry.  I've been taking Advair for
several years and think it's a miracle drug(s).  I also take Singulair and
they make a great combination.

If you suffer from allergies, consider also one of the modern antihistamines
such as Zyrtec or Allegra.
