Hi,

Is there a leukotriene antagonist which a) is not a 2D6 substrate, b)
does not inhibit 3A4 hepatic enzymes, and c) does not cross the
blood-brain barrier?

It looks like Singulair meets a+b, but I can't find information on the
third.

Thank you for your help.

A thiobarbituric acid (TBA)-reactive product, augmented luminol
chemiluminescence by neutrophils, released leukotriene B4 from neutrophils,
activated complement, and promoted neutrophil chemotaxis. All of these events
increased with the concentration of complexed iron and were suppressed by the
iron chelator deferoxamine or the .OH scavenger dimethylthiourea.

I'm looking for these properties because of other medications I am
taking (one is a 2D6 inhibitor and one a 3A4 substrate).  I'd also
like not to have any more drugs running around in my brain than I need
to; I already have problems with chronic anxiety.

Pete:  I thought about posting this to a pharmacy group, but I was
impressed with the pharmacological knowledge on this group, and I also
find that some patients today are very well-informed about the
properties of their medications (usually the result of realizing that
some doctors and pharmacists miss things frequently).  So, I thought
I'd give my question a shot.

Thanks,

Matt

I looked into the stuff I have and did not find anything that
indicates whether montelukast crosses the blood-brain barrier.

BTW -'ironjustice' is a mission poster who believes that iron causes
asthma.  Best to ignore him.

I finally found an answer--there is very little to no blood-brain barrier crossing.

Why are you looking for these requirements?
