Asthma attack from a hot Hi Def satellite receiver?

I have a new Dish Network satellite receiver and I have recently had a
constant problem with asthmatic reaction to something. I've had asthma
for a long time and go for months without an  attack, but recently I've
been suffering constantly.

I've tried to think of everything that could be triggering it and now think
it is the new satellite receiver.  This thing is really warm and has no fans
like a computer. I turned it off and that seems to help a lot. Could this be
the problem? Could a hot receiver somehow heat up electronic parts and give
off some kind of gas that I am reacting to?

It's possible.  Since you said that it has no fans (even those devices that
do have cooling fans are usually brushless DC or AC motors, and produce no
irritating ozone), then it's possible that some components are outgassing
some irritants.  Also, many circuit boards have conformal coatings, which
when heated, could outgas some solvent.  These coating materials vary, and
are intended to keep moisture away from high-impedance circuitry by
providing a general "vapor barrier."  Do you notice a particular smell when
the receiver is on?

I don't smell anything when its on, however I don't have much of a sense of
smell left
after being a N.Y. City firefighter for many years. However, I am noticing
that I am
sleeping better when I turn the Hi Def Dish Network receiver off at night.
Unfortunately,
you can't do it by remote control and have to pull the plug. Great
designing.
