Cats know what we feel. They don't care, but they know.

You had mentioned in an earlier post that you were going to see a specialist
instead of an FP.  What did he say?  Have your allergy tests shown that you
have a sensitivity to cats?

The vast majority of people are allergic to cats dander.  For many it
causes havoc.  Best way to know is to get yourself tested by an allergist.

Very fortunately, although I'm wildly allergic to hair from short-hair
cats, it only affects my eyes, not my breathing. And, to our
childrens' joy, I found I could tolerate long-hair cat fur from
Persian and part-Persians .. our favourite cats. Dogs don't seem to
affect me at all, which is amazing given that I'm allergic to just
about every other substance I can think of ...

It's not the cat or it's fur specifically that people are allergic too.
It's their dander thats loaded with bacteria.  Maybe from all the
licking of themselves they do.

From Science News July 7, 2007 issue:

"Bad News for Cats: Cat allergen hits all allergic people by Carolyn Barry
For people who have asthma or respiratory problems that are triggered by
cats, living with Fluffy is obviously a bad idea. Now, researchers have
found evidence suggesting that people who know that they have other
allergies may also want to avoid the furry felines. " ....

"The unexpected result emerged from a broad study of allergy and lung
function. The researchers went into the homes of 1,884 randomly selected
volunteers and tested mattress-dust samples for allergens from cats and dust
mites. Volunteers were also tested to determine whether they were allergic
to common triggers such as dust mites, cats, Cladosporium mold, and timber
grass, a relative of Kentucky bluegrass. " ....

"Surprisingly, Chinn says, people living around cats performed worse on the
lung function test even if they weren't specifically allergic to cats. By
contrast, exposure to dust mites made no difference to the test results of
people not allergic to the bugs. "
