Anybody else here suffer from Eczema as well as Asthma?
A few months after starting using Advair I noticed another positive
side effect. The Eczema I've had on my hands since 1988 slowly
clear up and disappeared. But I'm not sure if it is the Advair that
cleared it up or if it is just a coincidence. Could it be Advair
doing
this?
Here's a bit of history from me:
I've had asthma since 1997. And for a long time I was taking
Flovent and Salbutamol Sulphate HFA 100MCG when asthma
attacks occured. But Flovent was never enough to prevent attacks.
Last year my doctor got me on Advair 125 (printed on the box:
Salmeterol xinafoate/fluticasone propionate inhalation
aerosol.25mcg and 125 mcg respectively) and since then the
asthma attacks have reduced. Whenever I have an attack I can
think back to a previous day(s) when I had forgotten to use
Advair.

According to the latest research Asthma, eczema (dermatitis), Crohn's,
colitis, multiple sclerosis and perhaps other autoimmune diseases may
all have the same origin.
The basic hypothesis is called the Hygiene Hypothesis (see
wikipedia.org for a good discussion).
Most current research (at Nottingham in the UK and at Iowa in the USA)
is centered on curing these diseases by deliberately infecting the
sufferer with an intestinal parasite. Usually hookworm or whipworm.
There are even two companies commercializing this approach. Ovamed
(http://www.ovamed.org/english/home/home.html) and Autoimmune
Therapies (http://www.autoimmunetherapies.com). Neither approach is
cheap, Ovamed's is hair-raisingly expensive.
Given that these diseases all have the same origin it is unsurprising
that both should respond to the same medication. It is common too to
find asthmatics with Crohn's, MS sufferers with dermatitis, etc.
good luck.

Be careful Tony. Advair also has some not so nice 'side effects'.
This medication can cause arrythmias.
Asystole and V-Fib are arrythmias that you don't want to deal with.
They openly admit to this 'side effect' but it is burried in their
literature. Read it and be careful. There are other drugs out there
that work as well.
