Is there any clinical reason QVAR cannot be taken with Flovent? Both are steroids, of course. I just got a prescription of qvar and Pharmacist wrote "no flovent" on the label. I haven't see that written anywhere. I had taken flovent in reduced dosage from optimal while trying other meds to combat asthma and still have a semi normal voice. Full dosage of flovent had my throat swelled up and raw as a beet! ALSO, if 220mg flovent twice a day is optimal for me, what would approximate QVAR dosage be? Can anyone say? Docs started me at 40 mg twice a day, seems very low from what I read online. Thanks in advance for any insight. Is it feasable to take less than optimal flovent dosage and supplement with another less effective steroid? Is there a clinical reason it cannot be done? Interaction, etc? I am not doing it, but nothing else seems to be doing the job at this time without causing raw throat, or fungus. Hence an investigation into a 'way around' the problem. Tried Asmanex(only so so), Pulmicort(didn't work at all), Advair(thrush), Flovent(raw throat), now am on Qvar(just began 4 days ago). I wondered why the Pharmacist wrote that, and if was to prevent overdosage by the uninitiated or if there was some interaction which I can find no info about. I think the pharmacist was just letting you know that usually the Qvar would be to replace the Flovent, not in addition to it. Why not just give the Qvar a try (including adequate time and titration up)? If you are on a steroid and switch, is it like "starting over from scratch"? Or does the new steroid basically take over and your relief is continued? This answer would probably help others, too. The way I read it, the equal dose is more like 320, or so mcg daiily dose. Mark |
