I have been having trouble breathing when I walk for some time. Now I am
having coughing & choking until I lose my
breath to the point I almost pass out. I have had this for about two
weeks, no fever. IT is very scary when I can't breathe. My doctor gave
me disc to try. One is Advair and the other one is Spiriva
Handihaler. I use one at night & one in the morning and they have
helped, but I still continue to have these coughing/choking spells
between these times. It strains almost every muscle in my whole body,
and sometimes I even gag like someone has their hands around my throat.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so what do you do. I never had it
before and I am 71 years old, body worn out I guess; I can't even do the
stairs now, so short of breath. I only have a Web and it seems to be
limited as to what information I can get.  <June>

Will carrying a lighter wallet make it easier to breath?

If is has only been going on for two weeks it probably isn't asthma. It
might be something like bronchitis, which the inhalers can help. You might
be better off with a short acting inhaler that you can use throughout the
day as needed. If this is all it is it should pass but it might take a few
weeks. Of course, you should be sure it is not something like pneumonia,
anemia, or heart disease so if you are not getting better you should go back
and let the doc take another look.
