I am 38 and have been taking some form of Asthma medicine all my life.
I have been on Advair 250/50 for about 5 years. I have not had an
asthma attack since I was a teenager, yet my doctors have always
insisted on staying on medication since I had asthma so bad as a child.
My lung tests are 82%large and 53%small.
Just last week I finally told my doctor I am quitting Advair. I just
want to get off of it and see if I have an attack--I doubt I will. So
he took me off of it and put me on Qvar80(2 puffs twice a day) for 2
months. In 2 months if my lung function is the same it will be lowered
and eventually I will get off Qvar.
So I have a couple of questions---some may seem odd :)
1) Will I feel tired getting off of Avair? I only sleep about 5 hours a
night--but I always have. I am quite sure this is not related to Advair
though it has a stimulate. So I am worried I will feel sluggish, etc if
my body has been used to a stimulate? Is that possible? I need to have
100% focus at work---and I always have. I just starting thinking maybe
it was the stimulate(salmertol?) that kept me focused.
2) Is the my lung function really that bad??
3) I have not had an asthma attack in over 20 years. I exercise
mildly---but going to increase more now that I am off Advair.
Thankyou for any comments.

Eh? Are you saying spirometry shows that your large-tube capacity is
82% of normal and your small-tube capacity is 53% of normal?

Try entering in an athletic competition against other people your age
and see how you do.

We can all look back with nostalgia to the days when the only torture
going on in Cuba was perpetrated by Cubans.
