Hi, I am a student currently doing a research project on asthma.  Does
anyone have any information regarding Breastfeeding and asthma
prevention.

All I can offer is that for my girls breastfeeding didn't stop them from
getting asthma.  I breastfed my first daughter for 9 months and she was
diagnosed with asthma at age 2 (as well as allergies).  My second daughter
was breastfed for 15 months and she was diagnosed with asthma at 18 months.
I am asthmatic and there is asthma on my side of the family but my husband
is not asthmatic and it doesn't run in his family.  So the breastfeeding did
not "prevent" asthma in our case.  Also, my sister breastfed her 3 children
( for 12 months each) and 2 of them have bad asthma (her middle child almost
died from asthma at 18 months of age).  My sister and her husband do not
have asthma.

For me, the breastfeeding made my asthma almost disappear but as soon as I
stopped nursing my second child it came back with a vengence.  I was in the
ER 4 times and on prednisone twice within 4 months.  Finally, I am on new
drugs that have it under control.

I was breast-fed as a baby but sadly I still got asthma.
