Peak Flow Meter Question

I am looking to purchase a peak flow meter to monitor my asthma.

Does anyone have an experience with the Respironics AsthmaMentor Peak
Flow Meter? I could pick one up for under $10.

Is there any significant difference between the different meters that
I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance.

I have just been given a new one by the doctor called Mini-Wright Peak Flow
Meter,  It is made by HS Clement Clarke International and according to the
same doctor is quite accurate.  Here in England it is obtained on
prescription so I cannot tell you what the cost is.  All I know is that it
works!

Hope you get the one you want soon.
Best wishes,
Jeffery.

Hi Rich,

>I am looking to purchase a peak flow meter to monitor my asthma.

Good idea, it helps you to monitor your asthma, and may be to help your
pneumologist.

I put all results on a spreadsheet, and take the diagramm to my
pneumologist.

Sorry I don't have, I have a Mini-Wright Peak Flow Meter, and another sold
by AstraZeneca.

I didn't know the one you ask about, but had a look on the net
http://www.autocontrol.com/products/respiratory/respironics.jsp?id=mentor

The Respironics AsthmaMentor Peak Flow Meter seems to be great, specially
with the exclusive built-in AutoZoneTM System that automatically calculates
green, yellow and red zones when the top of the color bar is set at a
patient's personal best expiratory flow rates.

Other great idea is the Asthma Action Plan Sticker, which provides
color-coded areas where you can write medication instructions, can be
affixed to the back of the meter.

Your instructions are then easily matched with daily peak flow readings,
helping you to comply with them.

I sure would buy this one.

I should say it should be easy to clean, and if you travel sometimes, it
should not be too large.

One other detail has to be said : a peek flow meter is not a high precision
instrument.

It gives you only a rough value back, which is OK.

Important is that this value has to be the same when you breathe in the same
way (measurement reproductibility).

The important idea is to give you always the same basis to compare your
condition.

Hope this will help you a litle bit.

Best regards
Roland

Thanx so much Roland. I just won an auction on ebay for this peak flow
meter. Including shipping it was under eight dollars. Hard to beat the
price.
