Mother of Asthmatic - 29 Sep 2003 21:18 GMT
I don't know if anyone out there has similar issues with their childs
behavior on medication or not. It's so frustrating. My child is on
several asthma and reflux medications. And right now is doing a burst
of oral steroids. He's only 3 1/2 and has a difficult time controlling
his temper when he's on all this stuff. And no one seems to understand
that it's not a discipline problem.

Anyone else out there frustrated? I'd love some advice.

Thanks!

as a child i was allergic to milk fat and at the time the school lunch
program only had whole milk.  my mother swears i was a terror tuesday to
saturday, and an angel sunday and monday.  just from one little carton of
milk.  lucky for us they switched to skim milk.

if your child's system is out of whack, the stress and frustration of it at
3 would be enough for tough time controlling temper.  all i can suggest is
giving him a "safe" way to take out frustrations.  i used to punch my pillow
as a child when i felt i was going to lose my temper.

Steroids are the most likely suspect , Try gradually tapering down under a
doctors supervision. The other might be switched to other brands.

My little daughter (age 2) does not have asthma (at least we are hoping not)
but has had a hospital admission with bronchitis which they treated with
oral steroids and lots of Ventolin.  Within a few minutes of being given the
Ventolin she was running around her cot absolutely hyper.  I was told this
was commen when young children took the Ventolin.  Before this she had been
so ill looking that she had me very worried so I would agree that it could
be the inhaled steroids.

Saffy.
