Sorry to barge in all of a sudden, but I really don't know who else to
ask :-(
I am looking for info on air cleaners, esp for mold and mildew.
Does anyone know if there is an ionizer or electostatic air cleaner on the
market that is actually safe, ozone wise? The Surround Air XJ 2100 claims
safe levels of ozone, but when I compared modle info, this unit emits
ozone in the same range as the previous model, the XJ 2000. Consummer
Report gave the 2000 model a thumbs down and rated the ozone emission
level at WAAAY about what is claimed and what the gov. recommends.
The Astrid from the UK claims the same level, more or less, but calls it
negligable--at three times the price.
I am confused. Does anyone have info?
Can anyone recommend a newsgroup specific for mold and mildew.
TIA,
troi

If you think you have a dust problem go with a HEPA filter. The ionic stuff
in general is nonsense. The fiilters trap lotsof large particles that the
sales rep will proudly show you but that is generally not the stuff you
breath in.
Mold is a different issue. Neither type of filter does a heck of a lot about
that. If you really have a mold problem setting off your asthma you may need
a good contractor, not a $100 filter.

Oreck has air cleaners I like. they are electrostatic and you can choose to
turn ionizer off.

Thanks. Do you know what the ozone rating is? That is my main concern.
