"I've been using what I assume to be the 14 herb version of this formula
successfully for several years........the Chinese herbal formula named: Ding
Chuan Tang"

Composition:

Bai guo ren 20 g, ma huang 3 g, xing ren 10 g, kuan dong hua 10 g, ban xia 5
g, sang bai pi 15 g, gan cao 4 g, huang qin 5 g, su zi 10 g.

So you see that this is not exactly the same because the two formulations
only have Gan-Cao in common. And this one additionally included ma-huang,
which is supposed to also help, but has undesirable effects.

So this is all I have so far found. Maybe we all need to just get the Red L
Root.

Well, yeah. Do you know how much research and experience it takes to be
determined to be safe in pregnancy and nursing? Not many unrefined products
have that type of info. Centuries of Chinese ecperience really won't cut it
here because a lot of this stuff only jumps out at you if you keep records
and look for the links. Whether they say so on the label or not all herbal
products should be considered contraindicated in pregnancy and nursing and
used with extreme cuation in kids unless they have good information so say
otherwise.

I admit to not being too familiar with the other ingredients but ma huang
(and probably a few of the others) is a stimulant similar to pseudoephdrine.
That is why it can cause increased blood pressure and palpitations.
Depending on how much is in there and how strong the effects are it may also
be a good reason to avoid it in pregnancy. It also means one should be
cautious about combining it with coffee and many cold/sinus products (like
anything with a "-D" in it.
