I recently renewed my Flovent prescription (220 mcg per inhaled metered
dose) and discovered that my Flovent had been replaced by Flovent HFA
(CFC free, also 220 mcg per metered dose). I checked for differences in
the medications after experiencing noticeable difficulty in breathing
after the switch. As an example, I have to rest after doing 3 or 4 laps
in the pool with the Flovent HFA, when I could do at least twice as
many laps before a break with the original Flovent. I am also
experiencing excess phlegm/mucous production. Has anyone else
experienced anything similar after switching to Flovent HFA from
Flovent? Any information from patients or medical professionals would
be most welcome. Thanks.

I was on the "old " Flovent for many years without any problem. As soon as
I was switched to the Flovent HFA, my asthma became much worse. Spoke to my
pulmonologist, who was very surprised since the "dosage is supposed to be
the same. " Obviously the effectiveness is not the same...I guess the HFA
does not work as well as the old stuff for some people. I am currently on
Asmanex and doing much better. Good Luck.
