Hi,

Asked my doctor (GP) for a generic inhaled steroid, but he could not
think of one.  Asked the pharmacist, same answer.  I have a very mild
asthma, so I do not need steroids all the time and do not see a
pulmonologist.

Doing some net digging, I found that  Vanceril (Beclomethasone
dipropionate) is available in generic.

Is that the only one?   I used Flovent 110 before and liked it, but
it's a bit expensive w/o insurance.

Rich

PS There used to be an FAQ in this group at one time, but do not see
one now.

I think you have an old source. To my knowledge the generic
beclomethasone is no longer available in the US and there is no other
generic available.

In Canada we have beclomethasone under the name of Qvar, which is made by
3M. Yes, its still expensive!

Qvar is available in US, but  it's not generic.  Anyone here from
Europe?  Can you get it in generic in Europe?

I've seen a number of meds w/o prescription and for a decent price in
Europe.

And, no, it is not a generic.

I used beclomethasone for some years.  I worked, in that I couldn' do
without some kind or other of a topical steroid.  But it didn' work all
that well. Whether Vanceril, Beclovent or Beclofort (the last not
available here in the USA.)

You may find the Pulmicort Turbuhaler (budesonide) cheaper, although the
upfront cost seems high.  If you can get away with only two puffs a day,
one unit will last over three months.

And the Pulmicort  i s   much stronger  than Q-var or Beclofort.  And
worlds  more effective for me personally.

If you were to use one puff a day, a unit would last well over six
months. ---Jack

Thanks Doc,

It seems to come up in searches as made by GlaxoSmithkline.  It could
be for rest of the world markets.  Which means, if you're in the US -
bend over.

I see it sold in Canada w/o prescription in generic:
http://www.medcenterstore.com/drug-beclomethasone

Unless it's a bogus site.
