According to the PDR of Natural Remedies, this was used historically to
induce abortion. It is supposed to improve circulation when applied
externally and it good therefore for blood pressure problems. It also is
proved by animal studies to control spasms of the gallbladder and upper
intestine. No mention of respiratory effects at all. And effectiveness for
any condition is of course unproven.

Keep going, you just might land on something.Sure do wish you would do your
homework though. I have plenty of time to look up and debunk this
junk.........consider at free service. However, now and then, I get a bit
testy about it. You understand. You waste people's time.

Oh, I just love you Joy.
This article was of special interest to me since the only time I now still
need a puff now and then, is if I get around dust mites. My condition
outdoors has cleared up completely. I was tested as being highly allergic to
dust mite.

Okay, in a hurry but here is one study from pubmed.:

(BTW, I appreciate the apology earlier. I have been known to be rather nasty
at times to others on this group myself. Usually pms is the culprit. Hate to
blame it on something so ordinary & female but once it a while, I get a bit
crabby and that just isn't my nature. Sorry to any I ever attacked during
such episodes.)

Effects of volatile constituents of a rosemary extract on allergic airway
inflammation related to house dust mite allergen in mice.

Perilla leaf extract is known to have anti-inflammatory properties.
Recently, we have demonstrated that rosmarinic acid, a polyphenolic liquid
component in perilla, inhibits the allergic airway inflammation induced by
house dust mites (HDMs) in vivo. The purpose of this study was to evaluate
the effects of intratracheal (i.t.) exposure to volatile constituents of a
rosemary extract (VR), gaseous components in perilla, on a murine model of
allergic asthma induced by HDM. C3H/HeN mice were treated 7 times weekly
with i.t. exposure. The HDM allergen challenge elicited a pulmonary
eosinophilic inflammation accompanied by an increase in the lung expression
of interleukin (IL)-5, IL-13, and eotaxin. VR inhibited increases in the
number of eosinophils, neutrophils, and mononuclear cells around the airways
and those in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. VR exposure also
significantly suppressed the expression of IL-13 enhanced by HDM allergen.
These results suggest that i.t. exposure to VR can, at least partially,
prevent allergic airway inflammation induced by HDM. The preventive effect
is associated with inhibition of the enhanced local expression of IL-13.

Yeah, but that is a mice study. You know how many mice studies go south when
applied to humans? What you need to do is find something more conclusive. I
am actually open to supplement use because I have experienced success using
it myself (well, my son). I just don't want to try everything out there. I
personally believe there are supplements out that could help. I just want
someone to be REALLY careful and figure out why it works, who it works for
and what it take dosage wise to make it work.. Don't post everything. Post
the right thing.

As far as the nasty newsgroup goes, I have been meaning to tell you that the
things that have happened to you have happened to me. Once I disagreed with
someone about exercise and asthma and I was accused of being for the Iraq
War. I am definitely NOT for the Iraq War. But with the climate in the
country, if someone thinks you are disagreeing with them on one matter, they
apply it to all matters.  I hope everyone in the newsgroup understands that
just because we don't get along on one topic, it does not mean we don't get
along on every topic.

I understand perfectly what you mean about living around the ocean - I am
like mcs hoping to get to move to the ocean. I am relatively lucky only to
have asthma problems in the summer as it is, but I really hate steroids.
Also I plan to be much more coherent when the first freeze comes/ and or it
stops raining .
