I have been having bad knee problems for a number of years, slowly
worsening.

Anyway, x-rays + MRI reveal arthritic changes (more inflammatory than osteo
wear and tear) as well as torn meniscus cartilege.

I will probably need scope "clean out" surgery. I know this surgery is
excellent for the cartilege problem but I suspect much of my pain is the
arthritis (but we don't really know).

Any thoughts? Can surgery be helpful for arthritis too?

Eventually I might be a candidate for TKR. (I am a 61 yr. old male)

Yes,  even with inflam.arth. have to have the clean out that you are going
to have.   Lets be positive,,,,,, this may clean your knee problem
completely up.

I can't answer the questions your asking, but just some words of
encouragement... my aunt suffered with her arthritic knees for many
year. Had the rooster comb injections, pain shots, etc.  Suffered way
longer than she needed to.  She had one knee replaced last summer, was
up and around within a few days and running circles around us all
within a few short weeks. Before she couldn't get up and down the
stairs.  Now she's putting off the 2nd knee replacement.  Hopefully
she'll get that one replaced soon.  She is 77.
