It can help ease pain, and it can slow degeneration, but the only thing
that will grow back cartilage is a cartilage graft. There are several
procedures available, including one where cartilage cells are grown in
an in vitro suspension, placed in the nee and covered with a thin flap
of connective tissue, and allowed to grow into the shape of the old
meniscal cartilage. However, this takes an extended period of time and
there's no weight bearing during this time, plus your knee is held
straight in a brace. Given you have RA, this may not be a viable option
for you: the knee may have cartilage again but the ligaments may no
longer be in good enough shape to let you bend the knee once the brace
comes off.
