First thumb synovectomy is scheduled for tomorrow.  We won't know what time
until I call later.  I know it's a brief procedure and I should be out of
there in only a couple of hours, but I am so excited at the prospect of
getting to work on getting my thumbs back!  Post-op can't be much more
painful than some recent days have been.  Yesterday, every time the phone
rang I feared it was the office calling saying they'd have to reschedule for
some reason.  LOL  It never was.

Man, I though January 13th was taking way too long to get here!

Nann,

I had surgery on my thumb two years ago.  It wasn't bad at all and the
results were really good.  Here's hoping the best for you and your
thumb.

Sending prayers that your surgeon has a wonderful night's sleep and the team
is at their most alert and talented moments while you are in their care.
Also praying for your safety and a good outcome.

Any place but this group I'd think you were daft being eager for surgery.

Hope everything goes on schedule, quickly and painlessly as possible.

lol, only here and with my family did i let on how excited i was about this.
no one else would truly understand, they'd get all worried and concerned.

meanwhile, i'd forgotten just how good-looking dr wroblewski is in person -
and nice to boot!  good thing mike's been nice to and appreciative of me
lately  lol <weg>

all went fine surgically.  he said there was a little less inflammation and a
little more arthritis than he'd expected from the films - both he and my rd
thought there was less joint erosion than there actually was, though it was
mostly on one side of the joint.  he cleaned out the inflammation and also
removed a small bone spur no one knew was there.

now i'm bandaged, splinted, iced (20 min. each hour while awake) and mostly
left-handed for awhile.  oh and he put in a nerve block so it wouldn't hurt
too much for a while - right now there left thumb hurts more than th
operated-on one does.

one rn has a daughter who just started enbrel for psoriasis and very, very
early pa so we talked some about that.  they found the pa during a workup to
get insurance approval for enbrel for the severe ps, so she's getting good
treatment for the pa right at the beginning.

hi, i'm newt o the group.   congradultion on your surgery.  i't good to
hear that so far things are going well.  may they continue to improve.

i have oa of the thumb(s).  i consulted a hand surgen who basicly
provided some braces, and so far not much else.  i'm considering
returning and requesting steroid injections as i often drop things and
the pain is constant with periods where it feels like something has
just stabbed me.

my question is, did you have the injections and how well did they work?

thanks
sheila

i had shots and they didn't help at all, but i have pa, not oa so the issues
are different.  my brother has oa in his thumbs and thus far has been helped
by some splints that were fit by a hand therapist and by altering how he does
things.  i'd think it would depend on how far advanced your thumb oa is.
