OTPish: My week in a nutshell

Hello friends, lurkers, visitors from near and far. That should cover just
about everybody.:)

I'm sorry that I haven't been visible to you for some time now. I do read
each and every day and rarely skip a post. I think of you all and hope that
you find days free from pain and filled with life and happiness.

Things have been somewhat strained around here since just before Christmas,
but this last week was a doozy. I will just give you the resolutions of each
event and leave it at that.

I got a shot into my right palm, at the wrist, in the hopes of stopping the
numbness and tingling that has been driving me mad for months. In addition,
I have a new scrip for Flexeril and physical therapy to try and figure out
what's wrong with my neck. It's been hurting for 5 months. I'll be back at
the RD's in just a few weeks for follow-up and x-rays.

DH's grandmother will be having surgery Weds. to remove her cancerous uterus
and we will be praying hard that the rare form of cancer she has will be all
gone. The CT scan showed it not to have metasticized (sp?) so we're hopeful.

My grandmother saw her cardiologist about the atrial fibrillation she was
diagnosed with a few weeks ago and he says the Coumadin and the drug for the
fibrillation are doing a good job. He'll have her back for a re-check in a
few weeks, but doesn't think she's in imminent danger of death. Pretty good
for 91, right?

The neuro's office is working out how to get us some samples of Rachel's
medication, seeing as how they didn't fax in the scrip a few weeks ago like
they were supposed to. It took a full week of me calling everybody in that
office to get it done, in addition to an argument with the nurse in charge,
but it's done. Any of you who have spent any amount of time with me would
know that I avoid confict, but my cub was in danger and I wasn't backing
down.

We had the electrician out about the main house breaker that was sparking
and causing the lights in the house to flicker. He removed the breaker,
cleaned a couple of spots of corrosion, replaced the breaker and didn't
charge us for the call. He did suggest upgrading the whole box, which we
planned to do anyway, but he was awesome and we know who we'll be calling
for the upgrade. There are decent professionals out there. Another local
outfit was going to put a $350 hold on our credit card just to come look at
the box.:(

Two of my co-workers were out for various reasons on Friday, one was at the
funeral of her MIL, and it left me to do their jobs. Friday was a very long
day and I was so tired by the time I got home.

I am glad to have that week be over. I am trying very hard to just call it
done, wad it up and throw it out. My next task is to drag my sorry butt into
the shower and get ready to do some much-needed grocery shopping.

My love to all,
Kelly C.

Just a year ago I had surgery for a cancerous uterus.  I'm really glad
to be done with it.  I do remember a fairly long recovery period.
Actually they say it takes a full year.

Vickie, thanks for the info. The hope with Grandma Jody is that it was
caught early enough that her recovery won't be any worse than any other
hysterectomy. We will keep our fingers crossed.

Sending prayers to you all for a smoother week/month/year!!!   Prayers
that both grandmothers do ok, that Rachels doctors get her meds
straightened around and not leave you all hanging, that you can get that
electrical box taken care of PRONTO so that we know you are all SAFE,
and that your pain levels decrease with each passing day!!!

Thanks, DeeTee and Donna. Your hugs and good wishes really do help.

The electrical box will be replaced before summer. No worries. We're going
to be installing central air, so it will need to be done anyway. The old
swamp cooler just doesn't cut it anymore.

Thanks, Jo. I sure was glad to see the weekend come. I have one more week of

I sometime tell myself after one of "those weeks" that since we survived it
really was a good thing.  After all only one week was wrecked when there was
enough stuff to ruin quite a few.

Wow, you've had a week I wouldn't wish on anyone.  Thank goodness for the
bright spots like that electrician.

Got my fingers crossed that PT will do wonders for your neck.  It did for
mine this time last year.  I had 2 good therapists, one of whom really knew
her necks.  When they were getting close to d/cing me, I told her something
still "felt out of whack" - couldn't come up with any other way to say it.
She had me move my neck all around as she felt it and she figured out C-2
wasn't rotating quite right with the rest of the neck and was able to fix
that by applying some pressure as I turned my neck.  I was impressed!  Of
course, this was after 6 weeks of exercises and traction on their table that
had fixed up the rest of my symptoms.  I love good physical therapists!

Nann, I'm really feeling like this is a similar thing. The Flexeril didn't
touch it, but the back felt much better. The neck thing feels like a pinched
nerve or something that's almost dislocated. I hope it's an easy fix.

the bathtub, light some candles, put soft music on and relax :)  Or
better yet, go for a massage :)

Something like 250% of what we'd normally get it January, and it's only the
10th! Crikey, that's a lot of rain. Then I was laying awake last night,
listening to the wind, praying that none of my big trees would fall on the
house.

They have flood warnings all over western Oregon, and it sounds like
there is some concern about the Willamette flooding especially down
stream.  It was nasty last night with the wind howling and the rain
pouring down.  I heard Seattle has had 21 days of rain.  I am
surprised we have not had more mud slides on the forest, we will see
what happens this week.  Several more storms are on their way.

Yup, we have had 21 days of rain, I can attest to it. I got a new camera
for Christmas and I'm itching to go out and shoot, but forget it. It has
rained or POURED every day. We have had a few mud slides here, one on
the Amtrak tracks which stopped the trains for a couple of days. Another
few on roads that closed them down totally or made them into one lane.
The worst place to see is Washaway Beach as there is a house there with
its porch hanging over a cliff. They are working fast to move it before
it goes down the cliff and ends up on the beach.

Mom says she and my stepdad drove up to Harrisburg to get a look at the
river from the bridge there. It's supposed to crest tonight, but she says
it's only about 3 feet from going over the banks there. The little spit of
land out in the middle on the south side of the bridge is completely under
water, with just the tops of the small trees visible.

I was in Portland today and there were some fairly large sucker holes
in between the showers, not to worry rain will be back tomorrow and
Friday for  the next week.  Yuck did I mention I am tired of this!
Seattle might break their record of 33 consecutive days of rain.  If
we escape without a flood I will be surprised. --- MZ who is growing

and I thought we'd been having a lot of rain here!  LOL Of course the problem
here is that we SHOULD be having SNOW right now.  As someone said yesterday,
if we'd had as much snow as we've had rain lately, we'd be starting to look
like the U.P.  But it has been long and dreary and the snowpack in the lower
peninsula is pretty much gone.

Grand Rapids, further south, has had rain or snow every day for the past 36,

going on that would cause tension!  LOL I do know that my neck is

Thanks, Loujean, somedays I need all the help I can get. On the upside, we
got the drug samples promised by the neuro's office and I had my first
physical therapy session.  The PT says that the top two joints are indeed
synovial. I really could have RA there. I don't know whether that's good or
bad yet.

I can imagine. I don't know how you could fit in a nut shell, much less
for an entire week. Even a big nut shell. I cannot believe anyone would
be able to cram a shower or a refridgerator in there, too, so I imagine
you're in dire need of a bath and are pretty bloody hungry!
