Norman,
Became a volunteer for the humane society - it would be to great advantage
to have their animals be given your love and affection. They truly do want
adults to come in and help socialize those pets up for adoption - BTW, you
don't have to take them all home, even though you would like to!
My daughter and I, together did volunteer work at the humane society. I
walked the big dogs so they had time out of their cages and she played with
the kittens. That was many years ago when she was approximately 9 years old
and she continues to work with animals. I'm very proud of her and value
that time she and I spent together with the animals.
Of course, there have been a few who came home with us - we had room in our
hearts for those few, but knew what we couldn't handle, as well.

If our humane society were closer I would be going in to play with the cats, but
would want to bring most of them home with me. We have one cat we got from them
and she would NOT welcome an addition! :-)
