Omg, I just posted a long answer, and google made it disappear.
There is a chart at Spondylitis.org that shows knee involvement at only
20%.
It shows wrist involvement at only 5%, and mine actually started in my
wrists, so I don't know how much I trust the chart. Also, it could be
that AS in women is known to generally attack the peripheral joints
more than the back where in men, it is mostly focused in the back.
I think there is a definite chance that your stenosis could've been
related to the AS. Since the hallmark of AS is changes to the SI
joints, and since changes in the SI joints aren't apparent on xrays
years or sometimes even decades depending on the severity of the AS, it
is entirely possible that it wasn't noticed at that time.
A lot of people on AS boards talk about stenosis in different areas of
the spine.
As far as knees, I have the same problem with stairs. I also have the
same issues with my joints being hot. However, I rarely experience any
swelling and my sed rate is almost always low. (70% of ASrs have low
sed rates).
So who know if it was related? Probably was in my humble opinion after
talking to other Asers about their experiences.
Not that that is much of an answer, but there it is,

Thanks Char..
pretty much what I thought. I don't know what my SED rate is., don't know
if it was even checked, my RA Factor was, A27, C-Reactive Protein and one
other I think.
why I asked here, doctors tend not to want to "admit" anything when you ask
them.. "well is this a result?" probably because if they did, since it's
been going
on for long... they'd get a smack upside the head for not figuring it out
sooner.
I haven't had my knees xrayed, but I have my wrists and theres almost a 75%
cartiledge loss in my right hand in just under a year! No wonder it hurts so
damn
much... also the bone going from thumb to wrist has a knot on it and usually
hurts
like hell to touch it, (I know, lol dont touch it) my left wrist has a
smaller knot, but
it doesn't hurt. -- LOL and my knees are so dang boney! Then again, hubby
says I
have chicken legs because theres zero fat on them, all muscle.
Well I have that appt at the other RD tuesday, I'll discuss it with her
then. Hopefully
we can get this ball rolling...
Thanks again... knew another ASer wld know :-)

Reisa,
I have trouble with the thumb to the wrist as well.! I haven't really
seen too many Asers talk about it, though.
I have had cortisone shots (three so far )in both of my wrists and last
time I also had a shot in my left thumb. Does the area of your thumb
pad hurt you? Do you have trouble picking up or grasping things?
This past few days, the shots have finally worn off, because my left
wrist/hand hurt so much. I've had to go back to wearing my brace.
I hope that all goes well with your Rd appointment,
Char
