I always get great advice from many of you in this group and was
wondering now that I started Remicade do I need to still take any
anti-inflammatories? I was taking Naprosyn but it was ripping up my
stomach.  By the way most mornings when I woke up I had cramps in my
stomach and most times needed to pop an immodium pill.  Since my first
Remicade treatment this past Wednesday only once have I needed to do
that.  So the Remicade does do many things. Maybe I need to get back on
Celebrex.  Vioxx worked for me but we all know the story there.

Hi,,, All I can say is that when I started Remicade there was no need for
anything else.   It is something for you and your doctor to work out.

I have been on remicade for about 5 years and it has been a miracle.
I have been in remission for about 4 years now, and take no
anti-inflammatories anymore.   Expect some fade with your initial
remicade  treatments, and eventually they may have to adjust your dose
and treatment timeframe.  This is all quite normal it takes a bit of
trial and error before they get it right.   If you don't need
anti-inflams then don't take them and ask your Dr about celebrex
despite the hysteria from the media it is a good drug.  I improved a
bit more with each Remicade treatment it was a steady improvement for
about 1 year.   Good luck I hope it works as well for you as it does

What meds failed for you before Remicade?  I've been through Enbrel
which was good for a few years and am now on  Humira which was never
as good ad Enbrel for me.  I had to stop for 6 weeks because of an
infection and it isn't doing the job anymore even taking it weekly.
I'll see what the doc says about Remicade next week at my appointment.

Thumper, everything failed me since vioxx was taken off the market.  I
have gone through Celebrex, Mobic, Naprosyn as well as Enbrel and
Humira myself.  My first dose of Remicade helped immensely although my
lumbar section is destroyed and in much pain today.  I have never got
an infection or reaction on anything i've taken with regard to Enbrel,
Humira or Remicade.  I'm tired of living on Vicoprofen because if I
skip it I feel the withdrawal.

I've got a feeling that my RA will recommend Remicade on next visit.
Right now I'm taking Humira weekly, 5 mg of prednisone twice a day 20
mg of methotrexate a week, folic acid of course, and trying different
pain killers and nsaids practically every visit.
Orencia sounds promising.  The good news id that they keep coming out
with new meds.  I hope I don't catch up with the research.
