I just got off the phone with my daughter's pediatrician. She has Lyme
disease, and has probably had it for 4 months. She is starting doxycycline
tonight and sees a pediatric RD on the 3rd.
I am concerned because she was on doxycyxline for 3 months to treat her acne
and just got off it a month ago. So I don't know what good another round
will do. But at least I don't have to wait long to get her in to an RD.
Amanda is handling it well. At least we finally know why she has felt so
bad all this school year.
What a Christmas present for my babydoll though. Dad is not happy!

Hi Walt,,,, Lyme,,,,, I am so sorry she is going through this but many
people do. It gives you answers. You have a plan to get better. We can
not make our children's pain less by taking it on ourselves. Please do not
stress more than you should. It will only make you worse and not help her
at all. Easy to say but hard to do. Been there,, done that. I do wish
you and yours a Merry Christmas and a better next year.

Long term doxycycline use is actually one of the treatments used in UK and
its former colonies for chronic Lyme. The US doesn't support that diagnosis
because a local Infectious Disease guy says there is no such thing as
chronic Lyme. But when that was my diagnosis, I saw lots of anecdotal stuff
in my searches from people around the world who took doxy for two or three
years and got a complete and permanent relief.
Unfortunately, I didn't save my bookmarks from then. If I have time over the
break, I'll see if I can find those sites for you.
Doxy is fairly safe for long term use, though I think it can stain teeth.

I am so sorry to hear about her diagnosis. I hope that she can get
this thing nipped in the bud.

Dear Walt,
I remember my mother had Lymes once when I was a child. She has it for
7 monthes from June to December. Lack of energy was her main symptom.
As least as I saw it as a child.

I fought Lyme for a lot of years and swear that's where the arthritis came
from.
I hope your daughter gets the right treatment and she gets well soon.

Glad they got a diagnosis Walt. Will be thinking of her - it must be nice to
know why she has had such a tough year.
Hope the rest of Christmas is uneventful in the health area - will be
thinking of you and your family.

Oh man, Walt, that is terrible. My thoughts and prayers are going to Amanda
and your family.
I know how hard it is to watch your child having to deal with something. You
have gone thru so much with your family.
I am hoping this next year brings just good things to you and your family.
I have seen others that have Lyme say that they had to do antib, treatment
for a couple of years.
good you dont have to wait long for her to see a RD.
It is good she is handling it well.
My heart goes out to you all. You and your wife, being the parents make it
hard to see your child go thru this.
But it is good that you got a diagnosis and now treatment can begin. I hope
she gets well quicker than normal for Lymes.
Give her a hug for me, and tell her to give you a hug back also from me.

walt, i hope the treatment gets it under control. i can understand your
concern about the doxy not doing anything for the lymes the first time,
but assume the doc knows what he/she's doing.
