I find that I feel like hell some 18 hours after taking MTX and again some
36 hours after the same dose.  This effectively knocks out two days.  The
rest of the time I seem to be doing a bit better.  Any suggestion would be
apprciated.

Mostly time it so that when you feel bad is when you are sleeping anyway.
And drink a lot more water right after you take it.

I think I can improve the timing.  The irony is that on the whole I have a
lot more energy and the day is longer.  With the stiff joints I was ready
for a nap by noon with this stuff I feel exhausted and sickly some days,
but not sleepy.

Ask your doc if you can try leucovorin rather than the folic acid. It
is taken either 12 or 24 hours post mtx, and does help to control the
fatigue.

Leucovorin does help me a bit, but not so much where the hair loss is
concerned.
Soon I will be bald at this rate,

Char, try grape seed extract and also biotin.  They do help with hair
loss.

My best friend is having hair loss problems and I told her about grape
seed extract. What is biotin?  And how much do you take  of the grape
seed extract? She said she saw it in the store but wasn't sure which
dosage to buy.

Carole, I take 100 mg of grape seed extract (standardized) daily.  Usually
I only find 50 mg. tablets but found a bottle of 100 mg at Sam's the last
time I was there.  Nann is the one with information about biotin.  I've
never taken it.

Biotin is actually a B vitamin, there is a bit in most multi-vits, at least
those geared toward women who need more Bs anyway.  My mom's derm told her to
try it for splitting fingernails.  Her words were "try one pill a day, if
that doesn't take care of it, try two a day."  She also told Mother that the
stuff from specialty stores is usually better than stuff from discount
stores.
After I started taking it, I learned it is also supposed to be good for hair
and hair loss.  I recall Harv saying that his daughter had trouble with hair
loss at some point and grape seed and biotin together did the trick for her.

All that said, I used to take 1000-2000mcg per day of stuff from a vitamin
store in Boston - dose varied with weather as winter is so drying and nails
split more.  Since moving from there, I've been taking 1500 mcg/day of Rexall
brand fram WalMart, which has been working fine for me.  YMMV

:-)   Actually my sister told me her secret to help women that were loosing
their hair in her shop where she cut and styled hair which she told me to
help my daughter who was all stressed out and not eating right away at
collage whose hair was coming out by the hand full.   It worked too plus
eating right. LOL
