And boy am I glad that's over...I really hope they got what they needed.

Well, we got up at 6, left the house at 7, and arrived at our destination
(45 miles away) at 9. UGH!!

There was just a little frost on the road and somebody wrecked. It took us
an hour to go 10 miles.

So, we were 16 minutes late, with a kid that hadn't had breakfast, or
anything to drink except the water to take her meds. Then we get there and
the staff at the outpatient clinic decide to countermand the neuro's orders
about sedation.

One gal called the anesthesiologist to cancel her, saying Rachel would be
able to do the scan without sedation. Somebody else thought she should check
with the neuro, so they paged him. He called and said 'yes, I want sedation
because I don't want her to move one little bit', so they called the
anesthesiologist back. This all took about 45 minutes.

They tried to get an IV started and missed the first try. Rach was really
upset and apologized. The person doing the stick didn't even try and make
her feel better. She was angry, I think, because everybody went against what
she though was best with the sedation. She could use some lessons in bedside
manner.

When the anesthesiologist arrived, she excused the first person and
suggested she take a break. They got the sedation going and had me and hubby
go wait outside. An hour and a half later, she was wheeled back into the
room and we got to help wake her up.

On the way home we stopped for big burgers and Rachel got an Icee...it was
the one thing she was craving most. Now we're home and Rach is complaining
that her eyes hurt. She was rubbing them pretty hard after sedation, so I
think she might have scratched them a bit. Hopefully they'll feel better in
the morning.

Tomorrow we see the neuro. for our regularly scheduled visit, but I doubt
he'll have any test results for us. Maybe we'll get lucky...who knows? I'm
going to be sure and mention how disorganized and poor at communication the
imaging department was.

I sure hope everybody else has had a nice quiet day.

Well I hope this turns out well for Rachel.   I hate it when the
medical folks don't have their act together.  It is good you are
letting the Neuro know about the poor service although those guys are
so busy I doubt they do anything.  Reminds me of the rotten billing
service at our local hospital.

Parts of Portland were bad this am. Rte.  217 had 2 or 3 wrecks and it
was very slippery from the frozen fog. In areas where the wind was
blowing it was better.  I stayed overnight in Portland.  -- MZ

The wreck we had to navigate was at the Charbonneau district, near the rest
area. What a flippin' mess. Reminds us why we live outside the major metro
area.

Tell Rachel that we think she is amazing.  We hate that she has all this to
deal with.

Dry mouth and eyes are common after sedation.  Glad she got her Icee but
that doesn't help the eyes much.

Kayla is sending puppy wiggles and tale wags to help her feel better.

Thanks, Jo. Every time we go up to the hospital, we see the hotel the
gimpfest was held at. Today Brett took a wrong turn, or three, and we ended
up right in front of it. I can't help but remember all the fun we had.

sounds like it was an ordeal for both of you.  no wonder you're glad that's
over.  wishing today's neuro appmt. goes way better for you guys.

weather has been causing lots of wrecks lately.  last sunday night, between
midnight and 2 a.m., we had black ice on the roadway out front of my home.
seven different vehicles, during those hours, hit the ice, left the road to
mangle a guard rail in front of my neighbor's property.  all 7 drivers left
plastic and metal vehicle remnants behind as they hurriedly left the scene.
yep, not much sleep to be had in my neighborhood that night.

this morning, it's 25 degrees and hoary here.  i hope it's warmer and the
roads, safer, for you guys today.

We had a much nicer drive today. Of course, our appt. was later in the day
and there was no frost left by then, except in the shady spots. Our
overnight low was 19 and today's high is supposed to be 40. Blech.

Winter hasn't even started and I'm ready for spring. Could be worse, though,
at least it's not raining.

Wow, Kelly, so sorry to hear that you, Brett, and Rachel had to go
through such an ordeal.   Really glad for all of you that that is
over!!!

Sending prayers that all results are good ones and that things with
Rachel will smooth out again and that life can just go on as normal as
possible!!!

Hang in there and know that prayers are ongoing!

You guys are amazing and a true testament to strength and endurance for
so many of us.

Give Rachel a hug and happiest and healthiest of holidays to you and
your family!

It sounds like you have a very brave young lady!!

Yes, it is important to let the neuro know about their incompetance and
the mixed messages you received.  Is it possible to call your neour's
office today and gently remind the staff that it would be great to have
the results ready for tomorrow's appt?

Sending hugs and prayers to both of you!

We did indeed fill in the Dr. about the imaging dept. prep staff. He wasn't
pleased and was surprised to hear that they had told us they called and
spoke to him. Especially since he didn't speak to anybody from imaging
yesterday. Hmmm...

He said he will be reading the pictures from the PET scan and calling us
later this afternoon with the results. I'm quaking a bit inside and am
trying not to think about it.:)

Kelly, after all you , and especially Rachel, went through, I hope the
doctor has all the information he needs to do an amazing job of deciding on
medication for the future.  Would be wonderful if this was something she
could grow out of.
