I know there has to be others out there like me.

What do you do for meds when you are allergic to most meds.
I can't take Nsaids because of the aspirin and stomach bleeding possibility.

Right now as  many of you know, I can't afford, drs, etc, no insurance. So I
can't even get pred.

So is there something else out there I could use for the inflammation.

This fog is killing me. My whole body is falling apart.

SqJo,
Is is possible for you to use Tylenol? How about Ibuprofen?
I sometimes use that Capsaizin cream (sp?) on my ankles and feet. It is
made out of caspsaicin (sp?) which is the stuff that makes peppers hot.
I would use it very, very sparingly until you find out how you react to
it.
I wish I had better ideas for you. If I think of anything else later, I
will post it.
I just wish you could get a break,

I am sorry I should have said that. I do take Tylenol and it doesn't seem to
be working right now.

I am half afraid  to use the capsaizin cream. I am sweating like a pig and I
heard that stuff is really hot. I don't think I could handle that right now
because of the heat stuff going on in my body.

I wish I had that violet stuff I got from a friend along time ago. It worked
well without heating you up.

Thanks Char, for the ideas.

I wish I could have used them. I am taking the pred right now. I had 2 50's
left. So I split them in half and are taking them. I have a couple 20 and a
couple 10's. So I will have to use them up and i don't know what I will do
after that. I was saying them for the adrenal insuffenciency (addisons
stuff) if i needed it for them. But it doesn't seem to be working for that
right now either. It is helping the pain somewhat, but not like I would like
it too.

I do take Tylenol on a daily basis for pain. But it is not doing good enough
with this fog being in. I just wish the damn fog would go away.

I have tried, heat and ice, hot showers, nothing is helping this time. I
have a feeling there is something bad going on with the back this time. It
was messing with the ribs big time. Starting from the back. I usually get it
all front in the chest, but this time from back. Then Jim tried rubbing me
down. Helped while he was rubbing. But after that, it got worse. I could
tell it was coming up from lower back and throwing it into the thoracic and
cervical areas too.

I am tired of all this, real tired. I have a virus, the pain, and the
addisons all acting up at once. I don't know why it can't just be one thing
at a time.

You might be able to go to the ER. It'll cost, but most hospitals will
do one of two things:
1. use you as a charity case and get a tax break
2. allow you to pay what you can afford, even $5 or $10 a month.
I've experienced both of these things when I could not afford medical
care in the States, and it helped me get through.
With this visit get a script for pred. IIRC it's not very expensive,
just make sure the doc gives you enough repeats to last a while. Perhaps
even doubling the dose, that way you can stretch the refills out even
longer by breaking the tablets in half.

Cheers,

Ari

Thanks Ari,

I might have to do that. I do have a few pred left and I just broke a 50 in
half to take. This virus is going bad on me. My lungs bother me, and then
the pain is bad. I already have a hospital bill that I don't know how in the
heck I am going to pay it. I don't even know at this point how much it is.
But I do know they want like 10 percent a month and I know I can't come up
with that.

Till last night when hubbies mom called and asked if we were making it, I
didn't think we would be able to pay Jan. rent. But they are going to send
some money to help with it. So that was a miracle. It was just at the
beginning of Nov. they said they would not be able to help us anymore with
money.

Tell them so. Most hospitals will take what they can get. Sometimes it
goes smoothly, but sometimes it's a negotiation. You should determine
what you can comfortably pay each month, and then offer to pay less than
this when speaking with hospital billing. If they want more, then
increase the amount you're offering to pay to what you can comfortably
pay each month and let them know that you can't pay more than this and
still eat. I simply had to stick to my offer of $10 a month for a while
because I could not afford more. They hassled me about it for a while,
but I stood firm and they accepted it. I guess they could have sent it
to a collection agency, but then they get even less. As long as you're
paying something, they should agree. I hope you're able to get your
medication soon.

Thanks Ari,

I did have two 50 mg pred on hand. So I took and split them. I took 25
yesterday and will take 25 today. Then I might split the other one into 4's
so I can use for 6 days and see if that helps.

This fog is killing me. I told Denise last night when we talked that I don't
know if I will make it thru this year with the fog. Last year it was Jan and
Feb the fog was in. It usually is in Jan and Feb. By the end of Feb I was
crying almost every night and morning till the fog finally left. Now we have
had several days with fog in Nov. and a solid week this time in Dec. It
looks like it is here to stay. It just kills my bones so much.

Also I figured out why my lungs are so bad the last couple of days. We have
the unhealthy for certain individuals air quality going on. I thought I was
getting worse with the flu, but it must be the air again.

So I am hoping that the pred I have on hand and was saving for if I got
really bad will get me thru this.

His parents just called Sun and said they will help us make the rent
payment. So that will be a plus.

Pred is dirt cheap so if you can explain the situation to an old doctor,
maybe he'll rx pred for you.  I've found it's cheaper than tylenol.
Omega 3 fatty acids have been shown to help with inflammation... so diet
wise, maybe add some of those in.
good luck

Chronic low-grade inflammation has been linked to the development of many
age-related health conditions. Although this process may be barely noticed,
there are things you can do to prevent or delay health issues related to
inflammation. Consider using turmeric (see yesterday's Daily Tip), following
an anti-inflammatory diet, and taking ginger, a natural anti-inflammatory
herb that may help to lessen the risks and/or symptoms of many
inflammatory-related disorders. Dried ginger preparations are actually more
powerful than fresh because of a chemical conversion of its constituents on
drying. Capsules of dried, powdered ginger are now commonly sold in health
food stores; use only those that are standardized for their content of
active components. The recommended starting dose is 1 gram per day (usually
two capsules), taken after a meal to avoid stomach irritation. There is no
toxicity and you can stay on it indefinitely.

Nicole,

I will check into this, I am not sure I will be able to do these as I have a
problem with herbals, supplements, vitamins and such. But I will research
and see if it lists any of my usual problems that i have taking the other
stuff and if not I will give it a try.

I think the pred would work better for me at this point though. I am going
to have to call my old dr and see if I can get some more.

i have trouble with nsaids and stomach, too.  I have IBS and it makes that
flare up.  for the worst pain i take vicodin, but only a little and with a
laxative or i'll constipate up and then bleed.  i get some relief from muscle
relaxer or xanax when i'm really bad off, too.
my best luck for relief w/o side effects has been just doing nothing and
reclining with a heating pad, and sometimes i use ice packs.  also some
exercise in a warm pool feels good at least while i'm in the pool, or a hot
bath.  i'm trying to learn to meditate but that's hard to concentrate.
(i have osteo in the spine and chondromalacea in the knees)
one of the most annoying things is the numbness in my L.hand, no meds make
that go away.

I hope you find something to give you some relief soon.
Squirrely - 14 Dec 2005 11:26 GMT
For some reason lately, when I use heating pad or take warm to hot shower,
it makes me swell more. If i put the heating pad on an area, or aim the
shower flow in that area, it quickly swells more. Ice and I don't do well at
all. I am thinking whatever inflammation I have and try the heat on, is
areas where there is bursitis that acts up from the heat. I am not sure
though.

Also I found out not to use cortizone 10 cream on an area that is already
inflammed. I put some on the other day thinking if cortisone shots work,
this would work too. It made it swell more and the pain actually got worse.
My body is really acting weird these days.

I have been putting the heater on and walking around with just bare minimum
clothes on because of the sweating I have been having. but the heater helps
get the chill out of the bones. then I don't hurt as much. Still hurt but it
is more bearable.

I don't have transportation to get to a pool to exercise. I can't sit in tub
to do soaking either because the hips go when I do. I do try hot showers as
you saw above and get the swelling.

I have OA, FMS, bursitis, CMP, Costochrondritis, and more.
I also have DDD in lower back and I believe from the last xrays of the neck
I am getting it there too.

I get numbness and tingling in both arms and hands. I can tell it is coming
from the neck and shoulder blade area. Because when they are activated that
is when I get it. Also things like typing, holding a phone, stuff like that
make it happen too.

Our bodies are a real mess aren't they. I also have IBS.

They had tried me on Soma and Flexerall and that made the palpatations from
the thyroid stuff worse. See this is why I am such a hard patient to treat.
I bet they are glad I don't have insurance so they don't have to put up with
me like they used to.

Ah, Squirrely, you don't have much going for you, do you?  I guess I need to
count my own blessings that I have insurance, and that I am not allergic to
any drug so far.  Bless you!  I wish I could wave a magic wand or take some
of that pain away from you.  I truly don't know of any other
anti-inflammatories than what you mentioned.  Gentle hugs and good thoughts,
