With RA or other forms of inflammatory arthritis also take some form of
glucosamine and chondroitan?

If you take it, does it seem to cause any problems with your dmards at
all?

I am just curious and also thinking about adding this to my regimen for
some OA problems, but don't want to if it will cause problems.

Your experiences with this would be greatly appreciated!!!

G/C made me hurt worse although it helped my swelling.  I think the gross
amount of extra fluid I have in my joints pad them since there is no
cartilege left.

I have RA and OA and am on Plaquenil and Lodine and also take 1500 mg. of
G/C daily.  No problems.  Don't know if the G/C actually does anything but I
would hate to stop it and find out ... just in case.  :)

I used to take 500mg of Glucosamine twice a day.

When my last bottle ran out, I didn't get a new one.

I haven't noticed any changes in how I feel, but I have not felt really
good since Bextra was yanked off the market, so it's hard to say if the
Glucosamine was helping or not.

I used to find it very useful and helpful with joint pains but I don't
think it helps any more.  I find methotrexate helps with the RA and pain
relievers help with the OA, but I don't see any difference any more it I
take or don't take the GC.  Five years ago until recently I did rather
well on just GC and Aleve, but things got to where I couldn't take enough
of either to do the job.

I first was encouraged to try the GC along with gelatine by a naturopath I
met in a diner in Tallahassee, the friend of a medecine man friend of
mine.  He assumed I had arthritis and I still assumed it was bone spurs,
which I did have, although they went away, I know I saw the x-rays.  The
combination ruined my nails so I dropped the Knox gelatine, but they have
never recovered, suggesting that it was the GC that ruined the nails.

I know that at one time if I stopped the GC things got worse.  I know
because I used to stop it for a week or so to see if there was any
difference.  I used to get double strength pills from Walmart and take as
many as six a day.  The effect was significant.

Melinda, sweetie, how are you???

Thanks so much for your input on this question of mine!   I am wondering
if you use just straight glucosamine or do you use the gs/c combination?

Think of you so often and pray often that you are doing better health
wise and that your family is also doing well.

Hugs to you and many healing thoughts as well.

Hi,

I don't have RA but I do have AS.  I have been taking a GC supplement with
shark cartilage in it for four? years now.  I take Arava and before the
Arava, I took Methotrexate.  I didn't notice any problems taking the GC
supplement then and I don't notice any now.  I say go for it.  It can't
hurt.

I have OA and RA.  I use 500 mg G/C a day and would not want to do
without it.

I take glucosamine every day, one in AM and one in PM.  Actually, my rheumy
recommended that I be on it.  I'm on DMARDS (Plaquenil and MTX) and I cannot
detect any bad effects at all.  My doctor must not have had any doubts
himself in recommending it.  What I don't know is why is chondroitan added
to glucosamine and what that 2nd ingredient does.  Because, my rheumy just
said to go out and get the "biggest and cheapest bottle of glucosamine you
can find".  Nanny

Wow, thanks everyone for your input on this.

Sounds like most of you use it with your dmards without any problems and
most seem to have definite benefits from it.   That is most encouraging
and I certainly appreciate you taking the time to give your thoughts on
all of this.

Happy healthy holidays to you all!

Just saw this.

I take them, too. They do nothing for my RA (but don't interfere with
anything). But it's a huge help for the OA in my knee. The difference
between constant pain and occasional discomfort. While I don't notice a
whole lot when I am taking it, if I run out, I deteriorate within days.
