and murder should be legal!

I swear, my damn DOG was smarter then he was.  The fool had every
license and degree hanging up, but he had to have slept with someone
to get them, because his medical knowledge just sux the big left toe!

So, needless to say, i'm back off RD hunting now... I get there at 8:30am
get right back, which omg was so nice, didn't have to sit and wait which
i'm usually ticked by the time I get to see the dr.  Well, he asks me a few
questions, goes over my other labs and reports I'd brought in, went over
what my GP sent to him.  Then proceeds to tell me that being possitive
on a HBL-A27 is very common and it's a bogus blood test as it is and means
absolutely nothing.  Then I questioned him on the prior arthritis found
and he says.. ."that's nothing as well, everyone has it when they get
older."

I look at him and ask him, well how old then? He replies, "usually when
you are post-menopausal" I blink several times then sigh, then ask... "Do
I look to be post-menopausal?" he replies, "yes." --- I reply, "thanks I'm
ONLY 38!" Then he replies, "oh well you're too young then anyhow to have
arthritis, it's probably just something else." -- more eye rolls and sighs.

Then he had me get up on the exam table.  He starts literally poking my
shoulders, mid back and lower back about sending me through the rooftops
and each poke says, "Is this tender," before I can even answer he's moved
onto another spot poking away.  Never ONCE did he check me for range of
motion, nor did he check any reflexes, in my knees or elbows.  I told him
about hurting my wrist/thumb a few months back and that I went to the ER
and they'd had another xray of the same hand 2yrs before which they compared
and said, I'd lost most the cartlidge in my hand and wrist.. --- I explained
to him
how my fingers and wrist ache and play hell trying to grip anything.  He
said,
diabetics are like that.  I said, this has nothing to do with that at all!
His reply was
"whatever"

Then I told him, that 3 other doctors that I'd seen, none of which were RD's
said,
that it was more less AS and that because the conventional drugs weren't
working
that I needed something stronger which is why they refered me to him.  He
comes
back with, well I don't think it's AS, I think it's Fibromy?? (sorry, I
still think thats
a bullshit disease) --- I said, no, I don't believe it is, I've looked the
symptoms up
and I don't have ONE of them! but I do have almost every symptom of AS -- I
also
have a high c-reactive protein, are you going to run any RA factor tests? my
knees
at anytime can turn flame hot, red and hurt like hell to the touch, which is
how my
hands hurt too. -- His reply, no you're too young to have RA.

Well my last plea was.... I told him I have other autoimmune diseases and RA
and
AS both are autoimmune.  He proceeds to tell me, that Type 2's aren't
autoimmune
LOL, I came back with... "NO sh.t Sherlock!... I'm a Type 1! antibodies and
all!" he
asked when I was dx'd... told him day after my 33rd bday, told me I was
wrong,
ONLY those under 20 can get IDDM.

Well at that point, I knew he didn't know his a.s from a hole in the ground
... I thanked
him for his time and told him he was SERVERELY wrong.  Then tells me I have
the
right to seek a second opinion. LOL d'uh ya think?

Sorry this is so long... I swear! I honestly don't know if i'm coming or
going anymore.
I often wonder if I went to the ER and said, I'm gonna kill myself
because.... if I'd get
faster treatment.  I'm not in much pain right now... only because I took all
my drugs
this morning, but in another hour, my belly will start hurting and I wont
wanna take
anymore then I'm gonna start hurting, then I'm gonna become a royal
b-i-t-c-h... and
I'm just SO SO SO sick of this everyday for the past 13yrs...

Btw, I have a call into my GP... called her nurse the MINUTE I got to the
car... if anything
I'm going to see if she'll just treat me... Tomorrow I have my 2nd set of SI
injections at
the pain clinic.  LMAO, gee, guess they just wanted my money since theres
nothing wrong
with me.  Funny how THEY saw all the inflamation and she was one of the dr's
that told
me it was AS.  *sigh*...

Thanks for letting me rant.. Just sometimes, getting it off my chest helps
to move on.

Reisa...

Sorry, I'm not laughing at your pain, I'm laughing at your yahoo doc.
They're not the end-all, be-all, I learned long ago.  Long-story-short,
though I don't post often, I spent most of my youth fighting a flavor of
Leukemia called CML.  Also have had bad hayfever all my life.  When I was
first diagnosed with RA five years ago (initial RA factor was 983, forget
what my SED was but it was some equally ugly number), I got a referral from
my PCP to the "best" RD in town.  Ordered a bunch of x-rays for posterity,
told me most patients with my numbers would be being carried through the
door, then promptly told me to take 9 ibuprofen/day.  Huh?  That's it??!!!

Knowing my immune system's fugazzi I've put all my eggs in the immunologist
basket, went out and found a good one and have been working it from that
angle ever since.

Good luck.  I know it's frustrating.  I'm trying to recall the last time I
didn't hurt and I honestly can't remember any more.

Don't worry about it being murder is you put him out of your misery--he
clearly is brain dead and should be taken out as he learned nothing in med
school or thereafter--so if he is a zombie or a robot with some of his wires
crossed, it can't be murder, can it????

Ah, jeez,

Sorry he was an idjit, Reisa! Ya gotta throw that one back and get
another one. That one's not a keeper.

Hey, girl...you can have Fibromyalgia on top of AS and spondylosis, too.
If they get good control of your inflammation and you're still taking opiate
pain killers and yer still not a whole lot lower on the pain scale you could
be an FM'er. Not that anyone would want ya to be...but it sure is a legit
arthritic condition.

I'm an alphabet hog, so take it from me...and get a GOOD RD quick! :-)

Reisa,

Welcome to the group.  Sorry you have to be here.

I saw your other post too about you being able to get another RD which is
good.

You also mentioned in that other post, that the neurosurgeon said it was the
body's way of spasming to help stablize the spine. Spasms are from the
muscles.

FMS is muscles, tendons and ligaments. I also have both arthritis and fms. I
don't consider it being a bullshit disease. It is very real believe me.

You have muscles, soft tissue, tendons, and ligaments running throughtout
the body. So it could be fms. But it also could be something else.

He was not the RD that would help you though from what he said.

You being positive on the HBL-A27 says you could have AS. AS causes those
types of problems.

I am glad you are getting another RD that might be able to tell you exactly
what you are dealing with.

Sometimes the FMS can make it feel like your bones are hurting because of
the muscles, tendons and ligaments running right beside them. So I wouldn't
totally rule that out yet. Also with you saying he was poking your shoulder,
mid back and lower back and almost sending you thru the roof. That could be
tender points from FMS.

Keep an open mind about it. You want to get help don't you. You want to get
better. So you will need the correct help that goes with whatever diagnosis
you get.

Good luck, keep us updated on what they find is causing it.

Now that is one scary account of an RD visit.   Can't believe there are
actually doctors out there like that that still have a license to
practice.   Really scary!!!

Sure hope the new RD that your doctor sends you to works out much better
for you.   In the meantime, praying that the SI injections can keep you
fairly comfortable.
Keep us posted on the new RD and don't give up hope yet, there really
are some great doctors out there, sometimes it just takes a bit of
searching.

Hi RK,

Sorry you are having such a bad time with your doctor and getting
treated.  The majority or us have probably been to one similar to this
doc.  Hope you find another one that will treat your symptoms so you
can begin to feel better and your pain can be validated.

Now - to address Fibromyalgia (that bullshit disease).  I've had fibro
and inflammatory arthritis for 13 years.  Believe me, it is not
bullshit.  My life changed overnight and has never been the same.
Fibromyalgia is considered one of the many diseases listed under the
arthritis umbrella.  It's not some mystery disease.  The name means
Fibro-muscle myalgia - pain.  Chronic muscle pain doesn't have to be
some mysterious disease it just means what it says.

Everyone wants their pain to be validated and those with Fibromyalgia
want to be validated as much as anyone with pain from RA or AS.  I hope
this has enlightened you somewhat to what Fibro is.

Once again, I hope that you find some relief soon.

Thanks debbie,

well, right there, proves I don't have (that bullshit) disease. :-)

I do not have muscle pain! My freakin BONES hurt. I think i'm
old enough, lol well maybe not, to know the difference between
bones and muscles.  Stupid a.s me passed out on the couch last
night and didn't move to the recliner, well this morning, I've been
up already for 2.5hrs and I still can hardly breath without severe
back pain.  My lungs expand, feels just like someone hitting me
with a baseball bat in my mid back that radiates to the lower area.

I even told that fool that. My back burns on occasion, but thats when
I've really overdone it during the day.

I hope you're doing well ..

I am floored that a dr. treated you like that. And an RD to boot!! I'd be
writing to the medical board to complain.  Don't know if this would help,
but if you post what state you're in and major city you're next too, maybe
someone can recommend an RD. With so many people on this board, there has to
be someone who lives in your area, or has an RD who might know of a
competent colleague.

good luck in your search and I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with
more pain as the result of an obviously ignorant dr.

thanks alison,

actually I live in right next to the city of Columbus Ohio.  I looked in the
phone
book, there are 3 listed! I checked my insurance website, there are the same
3 listed.

I did get ahold of my GP's nurse, who grabbed my doc coming out from another
patient and gave her a quick run down.  She remembered the name of another
RD at
the OSU.  The nurse called me back, she said they would be able to get me in
before
the end of Dec and would call me back in a day or two with the appt.  So, we
shall see.

I do plan on filing with the medical board as well as my insurance co.

thanks again

Mama Char, who posted to us on the "hi family!" thread, always says "Someone
had to graduate at the bottom of the class."  I've had a couple of those RDs,
though I don't think any as drastically horrendous as yours, though the last
one came close.

You're doing right by looking out for yourself, despite what this bozo said.
Try to find a good RD though, even the best PCP can't keep up with all the
advances and you're better off with a specialist, assuming you can find one
who actually knows something.

And like Rosie said, you might have fibro in there too - that's what I
thought of when you were talking about the pain on different pokes.

Thanks everyone.

I did get a call back from the nurse.  She caught my gp and explained it to
her, she has another RD lined up for me, just waiting on the appt now.  Said
it should be before end of Dec., in the meantime she said if I needed
anything
just let her know.  (medication wise)  I'm close to just asking her if "we"
can
treat this and hell with the RD., she seems to know her stuff.

In a hour I have to leave for another set of SI injections so when I get
home,
I plan on phoning my insurance co and filing a report as well as the Ohio
medical board.

To those who suggested I might have FB as well, I highly doubt it.  Okay,
<g> I'll apologize and rening, it's not a "bullshit" disease... BUT, I know
for
a fact I do not have it.  I don't have muscle pains.  The only muscle that
hurts
on me is my lower back, and that doesn't even hurt, when I overdo things
it burns, which has done this since before my back surgery and my
neurosurgeon
told me it was the bodys way of spasming to help stablize the spine.  He'd
given
me flexeril and simply works wonders when I start to burn, I pop a few and
relax
for 30-40mins and the burning is gone, or subsided enough to get up and go
again.

It's my freakin bones that hurt! The only way I can describe it, is it feels
like when
you wack your knee or elbow on a corner, not the tingling ... the after pain
when
you touch it and you press on the bone and it actually hurts.  That's a
majority of
how my body feels everyday.  I've felt like that for going on 14yrs now.

Anyhow, thanks again to everyone.. I'll keep ya updated, need to waddle in
and
get dressed to get out the door to the pain clinic.  Least the SI injections
are helping
to keep the majority of the swelling down.  I do get minor relief from it.
Been able
to cut back on the naproxen somewhat.

Take care and well wishes all

RK,
This is a bunch of bull. However, I do know how it feels. I am on my
third RD in just over 2.5 years.
Actually the fibro was diagnosed in me before the AS was, even though
the AS problems started earlier than the fibro ones did.
It is not unusual to have an autoimmune arthritis, and then to develp
fibro.
I agree with the others, off to see a new RD.
Let us know how you make out, and good luck,
Char

It's not murder to pull the plug on those who are brain-dead.

Reisa, so sorry you had to go through that. So glad your GP is sharp and
sticking with this. Having a GP who believes you and stands by you when
things are amorphous is a wondrous gift.

Something you say concerns me - you keep saying your bones hurt. Has your GP
done a screen for a blood/bone marrow disorder? I don't want to be an
alarmist, but it reminds me of my dad, who had multiple myeloma. Not saying
that's what you might have. But just wondering whether that has been
screened out, yet.
