Newsgroup Spambuster - 03 Dec 2005 21:49 GMT Hi Gang!
Just wondering what websites you use or where you look for used book---especially those that are out of print.
I am on a quest to find the 6 Diane C. books that I have yet to read. I especially hope to find them and get them before the holiday hits as I am going to need something to keep me from being too depressed over the holidays.
Any help on this quest of mine I would greatly appreciate!!!

DianeW - 03 Dec 2005 22:19 GMT I found one of Diane C's out of print books on Amazon.com. I was able to get a hard back copy of it that was in excellent condition. They have a buy it now site or an auction site and they rate the sellers much like ebay does. I hope it doesn't offend her that that's how I bought it! I like to have all my books in hard back so that match. Call me a little anal! LOL DianeW
Diane - 04 Dec 2005 02:47 GMT i NEVER mind people finding my out-of-print books however they can. donna, tell me which ones you haven't read. if i have spares, i'll send them to you.

Newsgroup Spambuster - 04 Dec 2005 05:29 GMT Wow, you guys, thanks for all the leads on the sites to find older books!!!
Diane, it is probably easier for me to tell you what books I have already read of yours! I have read so far:
Bay at Midnight Kiss River Keeper of the Light Her Mothers Shadow The Courage Tree Cypress Point Brass Ring Summers Child Breaking the Silence
I need to start doing some searches for your other books, however many more there may be. From poking around, it looks like I may be missing about 6-8 books!?
As far as I can determine, it looks like I am missing:
Reflection The Escape Artist Fire and Rain Secret Lives Lovers and Strangers Private Relations
Also, did you have a book called Secret Desires? And some other one that I might be missing?
I see you also have one coming out in January called something like CeeCee. I will have to preorder that so I get it when it comes out. I'm kind of like Diane W. I prefer the hard cover books, but have some of your books in soft cover. The majority, though are in hard cover.
Your books make for such great reading and keep me so captivated that I plan to try and lose myself in several of them over the holidays to keep my mind off of how depressing the holidays will be without my big brother. Whew, I wish I could just fast forwad right through the holiidays and not even have to deal with them!
I am also having another set of ear tubes placed on the 16th of this month and then, in january, providing my health holds out, will have tendon releases on both of my index fingers to prevent he constant triggering. Somewhere down the line I also need to have both bases of both thumbs rebuilt, but those will have to wait awile. So......plenty of opportunity and excuses to lose myself in some good books!!!
Anyways, Diane, that is where I am in my search/quest to find your remaining books.
Any help is greatly appreciated and I am more than willing to pay you for postage and the cost of the book.
Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions!!!
Thanks Kelly C. for your kind message! It brought tears to my eyes!!! I love you too!!!
Hugs,
Donna G
Nann Bell - 04 Dec 2005 15:30 GMT No advice on the books - I rarely look for used books on the internet. We tend to buy bagfuls at library sales and otherwise just check stuff out of the library :) but.....

Whew, I wish I could just fast forwad right through the > holiidays and not even have to deal with them! spend as much time with family as possible. It helps to be around others who loved the same person and who are also missing him. And be sure to give each other some room to be moody. Give yourselves opportunities to recall the things you miss about him and the things you won't necessarily miss as much! ;) The first time for each thing is so hard after something like this, but each time you get through it makes the next time easier. Eventually you'll be able to remembering with a bit of sadness but also with a wistful sweetness and joy that you had this person with you for a while.
We recently sang a hymn that is just loaded with childhood memories of my father, who was the organist at the church where I grew up. For the first year after his death, I burst into tears if this hymn appeared. The second year, I'd still cry, but could make it through a verse or two. Now I am able to smile at my mental picture of him playing away on that old reed organ St Michael's had when I was a kid........ Hang in there. It will get better (which you know, though it's so vrey hard right now). And sharing it all with others who loved him will help.

I'll join you, though my surgeries are less major. My first thumb synovectomy is scheduled for 1/13. I hope I'm over this blasted virus by then! I've been having such a hard time waiting for that day. I'm ready to do this yesterday!

> Hi Gang! > [quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > > Donna G Nicole H - 04 Dec 2005 01:30 GMT My husband found a great site called Paperbackswap.com. You register the paperback books you've read and don't want anymore. Other members can then select your books they want to read. When they choose one of your books, you print out a mailing wrapper, wrap the book, put 4 stamps on it and drop it in the mail box. When they receive your book in the mail, you receive a credit. You also earn credits for listing your books. Then you use your credits to "buy" books from other members. They have hundreds of thousands of titles listed, so there's lots to choose from! It's a great site and we've been very happy with it. And, it's free!!
> Hi Gang! > [quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > > Donna G shenmei9@aol.com - 04 Dec 2005 01:48 GMT Carole - 04 Dec 2005 07:42 GMT I generally check half.com first. Then I also google the title because often small bookshops will pop up. Also check Amazon.com as often people will sell a copy of a book they've already read. Just search for the title and then you will see where it says "New and used from $......" and click there. I have found some real bargains there especially on fiction :)
Good Luck hunting! Carole

no answers there for you. But wanted to say it is good to see you post. My heart is with you and your family during the holidays. I know it is not easy. I hope your ears will do better. I hope you can get the fingers done and that, that will help you out greatly.
Do you read other books besides Diane C.'s? What kind do you like reading?

Newsgroup Spambuster - 05 Dec 2005 08:07 GMT Wow, you guys rock!!!
I had no idea that there were so many different sites out there to find used and out of print books. Amazing!
Thanks to all of you for your input and for your support.
Oh, and Diane, I of course would LOVE to have you send me some books, but I don't want to take from you your only copies! And, it isn't very fair to expect you to indur the cost of shipping. I will send you my snail mail addy, but don't send me anything if it puts you in a bad position in any way!!!
SJ, thanks for your well wishes. I think the tendon releases on the trigger fingers hopefully won't be that big of a deal at all. At least that is what the orthopedic doc says and it certainly can't be any more painful than my hands have become over all. The thumbs are bad, but the new splints they made me out of thermo-plastic stuff does seem to help some thank goodness. The thumb surgeries will be considerably more major, but they are something we hope to put off for a while and buy me some time with splints and such. We'll see how it goes. I am actually looking forward to the ear tubes being placed as they always do a good job for me and cut way down on the amount of ear and sinus infections I get which is a good thing!
As far as books go, I never have been a big reader, but have gotten totally hooked on Diane's books ever since I got my first book of hers from Melinda during one of the secret sender rounds. I love Dianes books and they really do keep me captivated.
In general, I usually like mysteries, love stories, or things that are light and funny. The other things I like are things like word searches, puzzle books, etc. Anything that really tests me and makes me think and try to figure things out. I love trying to figure things out which is probably why I love Dianes books so much. I am always trying to figure out the endings of her books before I get there and I have to say, she does come up with some of the most unusual, surprising, and amazing endings. So creative!!!
It will be good for me to have something to keep my brain busy during the holidays as they will be tough even when I will be with family during some of the holiday. My brothers birthday is also in december, so that will make it a bit harder on all of us. I still can't believe he is gone. I miss him soooooo much, especially since he was my big brother and had so much wisdom to share!
Nights are the most difficult, and that will be a great time to lose myself in a few of Dianes books to keep my mind occupied.
BTW, I was having a particularly bad night the other night and just really needed someone to talk with. So, I called Kate to see how she was doing with her recovery. She says to tell you all hello and sends her love. You gotta just love having friends on the other side of the US that are 3 hours behind you in time so you can call them when you can't sleep! LOL.
Thank you to all of you who have also included me in your christmas card sending, you can't begin to know how much that means to me!!!
I feel like I need to apologize to you all as I just can't get myself to do christmas cards this year! I have gotten my christmas cards out 3 different times already and all 3 times ended up putting them back in the closet shelf as I just can't bring myself to get in the mood. So, I apologize to you all, but know that I still wish you all a most blessed holiday season and the very best of new years!!!
I love you all!!!

Squirrely - 06 Dec 2005 07:37 GMT Donna,
I sure do hope the splints and such work for you. I am glad to hear the ear tubes help you out like that. That is a good thing.
I love word search ones too. But lately I have been satisfied with the crossword puzzles in the paper. Have you ever read Nora Roberts books. They are good.
I know how it goes with holidays and losing someone. You will be in my heart during that time. Well you have been in my heart for along time now. But I hope you know what I mean.
That was good that you could talk to Kate. If you ever want to talk to another west coaster, send me an email and I will email you my phone number. I know it is nice for east people to call west. At times it is nice for us westerners too. Like If I am up at 4-6 in the morning. I can call back east and talk to someone because no one out here is up yet.
You do not have to apologize to us about christmas cards. Man oh man, you have done so much for all of us. We know it is a trying time for you and of course we know you are not up to it. So knock it off. No apology needed. ;-)

Newsgroup Spambuster - 05 Dec 2005 08:08 GMT BTW, SJ, how is Jim doing at his new job???
Donna G
Squirrely - 06 Dec 2005 07:40 GMT It is touch and go right now. Jim likes the job because he is learning new things. But his boss is not the easiest one to get along with. There is just the boss, Jim and another guy working there. He rides Jim and the other guy continually. I worry about Jim having another heart attack from all the stress. He just got his pay cut by $2 an hour too. We were barely making it on what he was making it. He also doesn't not get paid for all hours worked, and doesn't get 40 hrs a week that way.
But what can you do when no one else would hire him. This $ is better than no $.
He is looking when he can for another job.

> BTW, SJ, how is Jim doing at his new job??? > > Donna G Aim - 04 Dec 2005 19:32 GMT DONNA! First, a hug to you. I see others have already mentioned half.com and alibris.com and Googling the title, all of which I do. also try powells.com - they have a location in Chicago as well as the original Portland booklovers Mecca, which I didn't know. Powell's actual store is my favorite place in the entire world. I could get lost in there for days, and spend hundreds of dollars. It's simply amazing.
Um, I have Reflection in hardcover, but it's a signed copy so you'd have to return it after reading. That is, if it's not one of the ones Diane is sending you. Since it's one of the ones she gave me, I'm thinking she may have another copy and be sending it to you :)
Another *hug* for good measure. Love and miss you, woman.

RoseB - 04 Dec 2005 19:47 GMT Also try http://www.bookcloseouts.com I have bought many books there, both for myself and for my classroom. It is an awesome discount site.

Charrlygrl1 - 04 Dec 2005 20:13 GMT You could also try www.freecycle.org, then look through the group in your area. It's a site designed to help people find or give away things, no money is involved. There are groups just about everywhere. All they ask is if you take something, that you also offer something. I know several people who have cleaned out their attics this way, while also picking up things they had been looking for. Oh, and they also ask that you don't post requests for like new laptops and stuff like that. Char
Pope Pie (Sy Lehrman) - 05 Dec 2005 03:22 GMT >> Hi Gang! >> Just wondering what websites you use or where you look for used [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] >> Any help on this quest of mine I would greatly appreciate!!! >> Donna G I am not familiar with Diane C, but if you want the text I suggest keeping an eye on the e-book news groups where all sorts of things are routinely posted and can be downloaded. The provinance can be quite problematic, but if you find what you want there is nothing stopping you from send a little something to the publisher or author. It is quite remarkable what can be found there. This doesn't get you a paper copy, but books are heavy and Palm Pilots ae light and nearly any text can be loaded on a palmtop. This can take some getting used to, but it works well when you get the hang of it.
