I have been taking MTX for RA and have had much improvement in the
stiffness of the joints, which felt as if someone had tightened the screws
every morining, an effecdt of swelling, if I understand it correctly. Now
that that has eased the OA effects seem to be taking over. I find that I
have more pain in the joints just standing and walking. It is as if the
joints are now loose and ill fitted.
It's a bit discouraging, but on the whole the improvement is helpful. The
day seems to be suddently longer and I get more done.

And that getting more done may be contributing to noticing the OA more
:-) I know it does with me, when I have a rare good day.
cheers,

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

I found when my ra symptoms have started to slow down that quite often I
have a period when my joints from standing and walking are worse and my
description of loose and ill fitted fits that. This does seem to get better
as my physical health improves. I think personally that after some of the
inflammation goes it takes time for the ligiments and muscles to tighten a
bit and support the joint. Also I tend to do more than I did with the RA so
it takes time for the body to catch up so to say.
Give it a bit of time, work on the strengthening and making sure you are
still resting those joints. The "cure" for OA is to strengthen the
ligiments and tendons around the affected joint. You want to strengthen the
quads to support the knees, strengthen the abs to help with the hips etc.
you might find a difference as you go along.
If you know you have damage in those joints for sure that might be a
different story. The exercise however will help even then.
Good luck - glad the improvement is noticeable. It should get better as
time goes on with luck.

Thr OA does seem to be improved with exercise, which is hard to get when
the RA is fired up. The other day I came home and did a whole evenings
work and chores and started for bed before I realized it was only six
thirty. This is putting life back into a whole different perspective.
